Affordable D2 steel pocket knife suggestions

I understand that the type of steel is not the be all and end all of knife performance but I am interested in some of the different steels used in knife making. I would like to get a pocket knife in D2 steel but like many these days do not have much money to invest in what is basically a non-essential item. I am not worried about the locking vs slip joint issue and not too concerned about size although me general preference is for 3" or less blades.

So far the Queen Country Cousin looks like my best bet. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions or recommendations on where to get a good price on the Country Cousin?

Thanks in advance for everyone's time. :)

The Country Cousin with Micarta handle is out of stock everywhere except somewhere with damn high price.

I am waiting for the next run and I think you should too.

Queen country cousin is a great choice for D2 and affordability, can't go wrong there imo.

I saw the Micarta handled version and loved the look but can't see shelling out the extra money... unless someone knows of a bargain out there :D

$45 bucks is about the cheapest you will find the Linen Micarta non locking version right now. It's worth the few extra bucks imo.

There's a pretty good selection of some Queens in D2 at http://www.collectorknives.net, including a couple of the Country Cousins with composite handles. The owner, Mike, goes by Knifeswapper here on Blade Forums.

I might can stretch to that... who is selling them at $45?

Ok, thank you for the information and my apologies for the breech of etiquette.

Hey trevytrev I have to let you know "that site" finally refunded me and they are waiting for the next run from Queen, too. :(

Glad you got your refund but I'm bummed that you have to wait for another run.

Stemgj71, you should email Mike over at collectorknives.net and see when he might get some more in, he's good people. Derrick over at knivesshipfree.com is gtg too, maybe hit him up. If they don't know when then hit me up via pm, I'll try to point you to a dealer who might have some in stock. Trevor~

Thanks for the suggestions and offer, Trevor, I appreciate it. I did find somewhere later last night so I'll keep you posted

Other single blade Queen D2 knives you may like to brood on: Utility Knife (Slimline Trapper) Teardrop linerlock, Copperhead both liner lock and slipjoint, Mountain Man. Then there's the 2 & 3 blades...Hunting knives too

(non BF dealer member reference removed) supply has some small fixed blades in many different steels but the same pattern. They would be a great way to compare blade steels much like the Spyderco mules.
The knives I was talking about are manufactured by the company I mentioned, I didn`t know Schatt & Morgan or queen cutlery had a membership here.
