Affordable EDC Fixed Blade

I'm in need of some affordable (<$40) fixed blade knives to stash in my various EDC bags. I've got a Maxpedition Versipack, an Eagle A-III Assault Pack and a Camelbak Lynchpin. I typically just carry the Versipack but I'm warming up to the backpack for EDC.

Anyway, I'd love to put some nice Izula's with TKC scales and custom sheaths in each, but that's too much money.

I recall seeing a little Boker fixed blade that was nice, but I think it was made in Asia somewhere.

So for the money, I'd like to have something with actual scales and a sheath with good retention and as many carry/mounting options I can get. I'd like to stay under 3.5" or so in blade length.

I've thought about Mora's and would like to have something a little smaller than the typical Companion or the like. Plus I'd prefer something other than Scandi for this use.

Thanks for any help!

Smaller than a Mora? The Ontario made Old Hickory knives might serve you well. No sheathes but some cardboard and duck tape would get you by, or google ghetto kydex for another option.

Here is my Mora 2/0. It has a 3" blade, so it's smaller than the average Mora. It has a small handle, which I can work with, but some people find it too small.

All that AND <$40?

Buck Paklite Skinners might work. But no scales or fancy sheaths.

Mora's come in 2.5" ~ 4.5" and, with some creative paracord work, should fill most of your needs.

But ... for about $56 you can get a Becker BK14 and 2 sets of factory scales. Indeed, if you share the scales between 2 BK14's, $99 would get you 2 knives with scales, averaging out to $49.50 each.

40 Bucks, better forget about the big name brands. I EDC several fixed Bokers that are around that price and a Schrade SCHF13, all of which I like very much, all around the 7.5 to 8.5 inch overall size. I do carry them molle on my day packs as well, with the exception of my SURVIVE! GSO 4.1, those are most most often carry's.

CRKT Folts Minimalist. 20$ from the shoppe of cutlery and 2" blade length. If you're jsut stashing them in bags, i guess they won't be primary knives, just backups. this will treat you fine and not hurt your wallet. full handle scales, check. lots of mounting options, check.

The Kershaw Field Knife Hunter 1082 is your answer. This is a great knife with top line steel and is only $33 at KW. It comes in orange or black and has a leather sheath. It is made in America. I have one and it is a great knife, holds an edge, and gets sharper than you would believe, while easy to sharpen.

Look at the Schrade PH2 . It's 7" long with a 2 3/4" blade that's thick enough to do a little hard work and comes with a sheath . Or , also look at the Condor Mini Bushlore at 6 1/2" long with a 2 7/8" blade and also comes with a sheath . Both are full tang , so they are good and sturdy .

Boker-Tom Krein Pocket Bowie. Neat little knife with several carry options.--KV

Maybe a Kershaw Skyline fixed blade? I seem to remember kershawguy having them as a blem for about $25 or so. Also, the Kershaw Field Knife might work for you, or maybe a Mini Skinner if you want a smaller blade.
