Hello everyone,

I thought this would be a good spot to request advice for a good fillet knife.. I am looking for something under $45 available in Canada/USA

I really like the Forschner (Victorinox) line of knives. They have plenty to choose from to suit your size needs. While i don't own their fillet knives yet there 10" breaking knife has been perfect for the larger catches, white sea bass, salmon, and the bigger rock cod that will happily spine you when using a smaller fillet knife. Extremely sharp factory edge which holds well and is easy to keep sharp.

I also still enjoy using my almost thirty year old Rapala fillet knife. I can't comment on their quality today, but they are still priced very reasonably.

I personally like the Dexter Russell fillet knives as they are cheap in price and they work great. I recommend them to my friends along with the Forschner brand fillet knives. I have seen these two brands used by more guides than any other brand up here in Alaska.

Yeah. Dexter Russell is the norm for commercial fishermen. Can't go wrong with a dexter.

They are a little over your top limit, but Warther cutlery sells a couple of fillet knives in S35V. They are listed under the outdoor knives tab at their website. I have the 6" model, and I am tempted to get the 4 1/2" as well, even though I certainly don't need more fishing knives. The blade is stiff, with a little flex, and came with a super sharp edge. They are worth a look.
