Hello all... who makes a decent folding wharnie, approx 2.5 3-ish in blade length, decent grip and steel better than aus6...anyone? I'm talking production or affordable custom (under 125 or so).Thanks. diamdave

It sounds like you need a William Henry! Depending on where you look, you should be able to meet your price.

Benchmade 921 is sometimes sold for under $125. I got my last one for $101.50.

You can't beat that as a folder with regards to the lock and blade steel in your price range.

In the $30-50 dollar range, Case offers a Copperlock wharncliffe in a steel they call 440D. No idea if that's better than AUS6 or an American version of AUS6, but it may be worth further investigation.

what about a leek, or rainbow leek? the crkt wasp has a aus-118 blade with black/blue laminated g-10 handles.

thanks... the Wasp has an oddly positioned thumb stud, I guess i haven't found a likeable (for me) CRKT since I bought the excellent Apache 2... the other suggestions i"m looking at now... in progress...

Well, if you have not completely givin up on CRKTs you could try a Mirage Grey Ghost. They have gone out of production but there are some still around.

A dealer on eBay named knifestore is selling the Benchmade 921 for about $110 if the Emersons or CRKTs aren't to your liking.

Benchmade 921's
Benchmade 450 Park Ave's have a Wharncliffe style blade
Spyderco Kiwi's
Case Wharncliffe Copperlocks
Case Seahorse Whittlers come in several different handle materials and reasonably priced.
I think Buck makes a folder called the cadet that has a wharncliffe blade.

My pick out of them would be the Kiwi it's just a cool looking feeling little knife very well done by Spyderco.

I like my Kershaw Double Cross (2 blades, 1 Wharncliffe + 1 Clip), and Random Task and Mini Task (both Kershaw), Buck ECCO has 2 blades, one as wharncliffe, and from Klotzli, 1 wharncliffe blade 440C and carbon-fiber scales. I am a wharncliffe-fan and have good experiences with the above mentioned Williams Henry VG-10 blade.

WOW! Lots of good ideas, thank you! i've got some work cut out for me...much thanks to all of you.
