I'm gonna be heading down to TX to visit some family. . .I'm taking my 6.8 AR15 and my 870 with me, but I don't really have a hog-blade to take with me. . .

. . .I don't have a ton of cash to spend on a custom knife for this, but I would like a better/more suitable blade than the Buck Alpha Dorado I usually have strapped to my hip up here in WA.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

BK7 or BK9 maybe ? If too big, try the Ontario Spec-Plus Air Force Survival Knife. Excellent smaller blade !

Are you looking to kill it with the knife with dogs, or did you just want a knife on your side and for cleaning/dressing?

Mora makes a few long inexpensive knives as well, which might suit your needs.

Either this

I have the last one in carbon steel, but I've never stuck anything with it. It's a good blade though.

I've got some buddies who bay pigs with dogs and like the sog pentagon fullsize for killing them.

I dont know your price range, but the kabar bacon maker is more or less a knife made exactly for that job. Ive seen it around a 100 or a little less. It has a 6 5/8" blade.

There was a thread a while back where one guy killed a hog with his ESEE Junglas.Since you'll be using rifles I'd pack something lighter like an ESEE 6,BK7,or a BK5.

Ka-Bar ZK War Sword.

Under $50 most places, over 9 inch blade, and comes with a small skeleton knife.

Gimmicky, but pretty great for the price.

Of course, if you are talking about a skinning/gutting/processing knife, I would look elsewhere.

The zk war sword looks like itl fit the bill for hog hunting. If you get a bigger hog ur gonna need more blade length to kill it, that long blade will get lots of penetration. Are yall trapping them or shooting them?

I would go with a KaBar Baconmaker (what its built for), the BK5, BK7, or KaBar ZK War Sword personally.

Are you looking more for field dressing or coup de grâce stuff?

. . .for coup de grace/just in case. . .

Just bought the KaBar ZK sword. . .seems like you can't beat it for the price. . .should be good for what I want and be a good brush cutter as well.

Its a high value knife, and is definitely the knife I would use (that I own) to stab something. Its not bad as a chopper either, and does surprisingly well at little stuff for such a large knife.

Only thing I might try to do if I were you, would be to grind a swedge on it. Its already an amazingly sharp point, but the FFG doesn't help with stabbing.

Good luck :).
