I am looking for a Skandi type bushcraft knife. I know there are a lot of very talented knife makers on these forums, unfortunately most of them are beyond my budget. Is there a more affordable model made by someone? Something with slightly less than 4" blade length. I would prefer something other than a plastic or painted wood handled Mora, though I have heard they are great blades for the price.

Thanks for all input,

I REALLY like my Boat tail scandi from Blindhorse Knives. They are supposed to be doing another run soon. Was around 100 bucks if I remember right.

Can't go wrong with anything at Ragweedforge. My next knife from Ragnar is gonna be the Helle Besseggen and then something from Jarvenpaa.

For the budget, the Moras really just cannot be beat. The carbon steel Craftsman series are about $12 and are just great...you will have to make your own sheath which is a problem for some people but I do it all the time.

Don't take the Mora off your list unless you've already spent a good amount of time with one and know you want something else. I know, you probably want something "better", but better in this case is user defined, as very few knives in the same category will actually outperform it.

I mean, they cost as much as two meals from McDonalds, you're only hurting yourself if you don't try one out :D

If you absolutely need something that will make a couple people online OOH and AHH because of how pretty it is, I can't help you. If you want to cut the crap out of stuff, try a Mora.

I have really been looking at giving the Mora Bushcraft Triflex a try, but the blade is slightly longer than I really want. I am trying to stay under 4" blade length as I want to keep it in my "goes everywhere" backpack and under 4" is Tennessee Law. Anyone know the best Mora with a blade under 4"?

laminated SL-1 mora I believe is 3 3/4, its the one with a plain wood handle and IMO the best of the bunch. IIRC there is two sizes with the larger being just a hair over 4in.

What is the name of that company that makes a similar knife to the Bayley (old Bear Grylls knife)?

Try the Roselli Carpenter. It is not full tang, hence not suitable to use as an axe, but otherwise it should be largely sufficient.
