I like to do what I can to help people who are new to the knife world. I myself do not consider myself as new as others but here in this club I can't call myself experienced (I'm surrounded by old timers!!
) I have stumbled upon something helpful to the noob in everyone. I don't know if it has already been talked about, but harbor freight has a 4 sided diamond hone block that comes with a base, and the grits go from coars to fine (by dmt standards fine is 600 grit) and is a fairly good size block. And guess how much it costs. Less than 15 dollars. Getting four grits in a diamond stone at this size for under 15 dollars is a hell of a deal, even if it IS a mediocre quality product ( by this I mean I'm willing to bet the diamonds are polycrystalline). This probably won't satisfy the knife knuts here but for the aspiring beginner I think this would be a great starting point. I picked one up, and I love it. I use it to better my technique, even though I already own an assortment of dmt hones. Best wishes and good luck
