Affordable urban tactical-ish knives?

New member here!

I recently got into knives and have bought a few to start my collection. I am really into Mikkel Willumsen's work but unfortunately can't afford to buy his knives really. I have his lansky stuff but am looking for other blades that are similar in style and heft without spending $100. Really like the flipper style knife and just trying to find some decent knives that fit my budget and style. Any help?

Kershaw has some affordable flippers.

For under $100 one can get a ZT 0350 or 0200 blem from Kershawguy. He sometimes has regular 0350s or 0200s on sale for close to $100. Those are hefty flippers, with a "tactical" look.

I would look at the Buck Vantage has some great flipping action and is semi-tactical buts still sort of sheeple freindly

I'm noticing the Bucks a lot lately....again.

Check out the Buck CSAR-T folder too. I think it's right at $100. I carry the CSAR Liason fixed sometimes.

For << $100 tactical you should look at some of the Cold Steel and CRKT knives too. Or ZT's if you want something hefty.

Kershaw has a few that come to mind, which are fairly affordable. It really comes down to the finer points of your requirements, specifically what you are or aren't willing to compromise on. I prefer flippers, but most of my working knives are not. EChoil is right on the CSAR-T if you really want an affordable folder, but it's not a flipper. The discontinued Benchmade 760 also fits the bill, minus the flipper. Heck, I would consider my Coast FX350 (or the black G10 FX352) as an urban tactical folder in a sense. I love that damned knife, especially for the price.

Seems like I can't really find the style I really like. Mikkel Willumsen, brous blades, I know these are all premium blades with a premium price...I just feel there have got to be more flipper knives like the Lansky Responder X9 that I can pick up cheap.

Are Kershaws worth it? I mean, Some of there blades are almost as much as a cheaper Benchmade (which I'd like to have an Axis)

I own more Kershaw knives than any other brand, far and away. What you have to keep in mind is that there is a reason some Kershaws cost more than others . . . two reasons, actually. First of all, as you may have noticed, some are made in China rather than the US. Along with that, the Chinese models are made with Chinese steel, which commands a lower price. That's not to say that all US Kershaws use "premium" steels, but in addition to the usual Sandvik varieties, some models use S30V, Elmax and various others. That's where you'll see the prices get up into Benchmade territory. I personally am in love with my new Camber, which is S30V. However, you should look for a discontinued Cyclone. I've got a couple different versions, and while I don't think "tactical" applies, they are very suitable for urban EDC.

I like the Kershaw camber. A lot. I really like the bigger blades with the smaller handles. Been looking for about a week through some different companies that I can afford and just can't seem to find one.

Kershaw Knockout is a nice one, the Rake too if you can find it.

Went to Gander Mountain last night and was looking around at the Benchmade case and got the guy there to show me a couple of the knives...I held and fondled a Griptilian and I am in love.

Really digging the orange Benchmade griptilian.

The Grip is a decent knife, I have one and am fond of it. It is over priced for what you get in my opinion, but a good knife none the less.

The orange would be handy to have in the woods, I have dropped a quite a few knives and tools in the woods and had difficulty relocating them. Only downside is in the city it can draw attention to the knife in your pocket.

Enlan EL-01 takes a lot of beating. About $15.
Rat 1 for around $30.
Cold Steel Recon 1 $30 to 60

The Kershaw RJ1 is a "tactical" Tanto with a more agreeable size. $25

The Cold Steel Voyagers and Recon 1s are good knives with super-strong locks. $45-50

The SOG Aegis may not be able to handle extreme use, but it's very capable and lightweight. $40-60

The Cold Steel Rajah 3 has a strong lock, wave function, and a nasty recurve kukri blade for chopping and slashing. $45

This is my "after hours" EDC knife. I bought one of the now-discontinued plain edge, black blade versions and fell in love with it . . . enough so to buy two more. In fact, it's one of those knives that I wish would be made available with better steel. The blade shape has just enough belly to actually be a useful cutting tool.

I really like the orange one though...this is color I would probably get... I usually don't get hung up on anyone being able to see it... I have a bright green lanyard hanging off my EDC knife now.

I do wish the grip was cheaper in price...Gander has them for $99 and you get a $20 gift card...so for $105 you can get a grip and a box of 500 rounds of .22 :) not too too bad

I like them...just a bit out of my price range.

I just got a heat off of the exchange for $130. For $30 over your cap, assuming that the stated $100 is your limit, you get a pretty good knife.

The problem is that the $100 threshold seems to be a decent one. Just under you have a few choices, but under $150 your looking at ZT's, a bunch of BM's, and spydercos.

Edit: was going to suggest a grip, but saw that it was suggested already. There is a thread that speaks of getting more for your money based off of a grip, probably seen it about 2 weeks ago, if that. Look around for that, a lot of good suggestions there.
