Looking for a decent knife for a buddy who's EDC is a total POS? I just came across a few at eknifeworks.com. They have: the CRKT Ace Commander Linerlock for $9.99. CRKT Doolittle Commander linerlock p.s. for $12.99. CRKT Large Mirage plain for $9.99. CRKT Medium Mirage serrated for $9.99. CRKT Red Dog Commander Linerlock for $12.99. Gerber Gator Mate with p.s. ATS-34 blade for $16.99. Gerber L.S.T. II with p.s. drop point for $9.99. Buck BuckLite II Centennial Edition for $14.99. Buck Lightning HTA I with red/black anodized aluminum handle for $17.99.

The Bucklite is a good, inexpensive folder that I would feel comfortable giving away, knowing that although cheap it is still backed up by Buck's excellent warranty.

The Kershaw Chive is a great little knife that you can pick up at Wal Mart for $20. I think it's the best $20 knife out there.

If you want to get him a slightly better knife, how about a Buck 112? It's a classic.

The Buck 50x series (Duke, Squire, Prince) are also quite affordable and have the look of more expensive folders.

I am very impressed with the CRKT Mirage series (especially the aluminum Grey Ghost Mirages...Miragi?).

Good luck,
Allen.

I would also go with one of the Mirages--smaller is probably better, but I would pick the plain edge over the serrated.
