Afghanistan/Iraq Soldier's Choice of Color

Do you guys have a feel for the color preferences for our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan/Iraq?

I would think DT and Black would far outsell the OD with orange scales for this group of ESEE-fans. It seems either DT or Black would blend in very nicely with their ACUs.

i am in afghanistan right now and i carry 1 black ontario rat 3 in d2, 1 esee rc3 in desert tan, and 1 izula in desert tan wraped in black para cord.
so i guess you are right black is a color of choice for me, but it was mainly because black was the only color i could get d2 in. the rest i chose in tan because it was the best looking one to me at the time.

If you are in the boonies long enough it all turns the color of a wool patoo

Its really a personal preferance. When my unit deployed to Iraq in 2008/2009 my guys had about every combination you could think of. I let them carry any knife they wanted in any color combination but if it was carried on their gear it had to be subdued or be in a subdued sheath or pouch. As an example, I had a Strider VB in black, a Strider EB-T in Ranger green, a Buck 560 in satin, a Buck 890 in black, and a Strider SNG in coyote brown.

It doesn't really matter all that much. Ok, orange is probably not the best idea, but for the most part you can carry any color combo you like. I've been to both theaters, and I can honestly say that we weren't low crawling to any objective through the weeds. Anyway, my favorite is the black, but that's just me.

Carolins River Rat isnt far of...
The SAS used pink land rovers for desert ops.

Dont belive?

Look:

The SAS can get away with pink Rovers because there aren't many folks man enough to pick on them about it. Sorta like the pink rattlesnakes they have in the Grand Canyon. Back on topic, I think any of the subdued (not bright-ass orange) colors would work fine. Guys in my unit carried all sorts of stuff with all sorts of color schemes.

A few soldiers have told us that black has an IR signature and maybe not the best color choice. So the black ESEE 3 sheaths or the black pouches might be large enough to be spotted? And maybe they are small enough not to be a problem? Mike

And my son built a scale model of that pink Land Rover:) It seems that the pink color blends into the sand at a distance so pink makes an excellent camo for the desert.

The extra heat absorption and the fact that black stands out in 3rd-Gen NVGs (which are now cheap enough for just about anyone to get) like proverbial tits on a bull.

black stands out quite a bit... but it all depends on how large an item you're talking about and at what distance.

prsonally, i'm not in the sandbox, but the area around me is rocky desert very similar to a-stan. i try to avoid any black gear. OD, Coyote, tan, gray, Foliage or Sage green all work well.

for something the size of a knife, there's no need for a camo pattern.
