African Blackwood

Thank you for the responses. I am having a knife made with it and wanted to know more about it. It is very pretty

Is it comparable to desert ironwood then? not needing stabilization
Yes, but I find it even more stable. It's the only wood I've used that exhibits almost no movement with temp/humidity changes.

Even desert ironwood moves a tiny bit.

If I had to use only one wood for knife handles for everything for the rest of my life, it would be African blackwood and I wouldn't give it a second's hesitation.

It is beautiful and classy plain, polishes like glass, carves and sands beautifully, can be checkered. It's extremely hard and stable. I use it more than any other wood.
