Hey yall,

Anyone into African Tribal knives? My step-son just brought home what appears to me to be a central African tribal knife, maybe 20 in long, blade that tapers from about 2 1/2 in wide at hilt to a long, thin point. The handle is leather covered, brown, goat maybe, and the sheath is similar leather over wood.
the sheathe has an area maybe 4 in long that is theinner than the rest, like it might be designed to wear in a sash.

His Uncle-in-law travelled through Africa, as well as the Island of Grenada, and picked the knife up along the way.

I will try to get a picture or two up in the next couple days.

Thanks!

not my area of expertise, but you might also try the ethnographic arms and armour forum. they have a number of african arms experts...

pictures will help, hard to say from the verbal description. there is a very wide variety of knife/sword/axe/spear designs, some quite unusual, in africa.

You might also post pics and your inquiry in Bernard Levine's forum here at BF.

Nor mine either.

Unusual is right! Without pics I'd say it would be next to impossible to identify an African Edged Weapon.

As to a new Photo Hosting Outfit you might try this one out..... http://www.tinypic.com/

This is what another fellow on another forum says about it, I know nothing about it other than it looks pretty good...... "Or better yet, Tinypic. It's run by the owners of Photobucket and is basically the same thing without having to register for an account."

This is the one I keep looking at
