African "Brownwood" Bowie

Hi folks,

Shown here is a Bowie made to the specifics of a client in a low layer (12) Turkish Twist pattern. The interfame handle is damascus with filed nickel silver liners. The wooden scales are high-grade African Blackwood which turned out to be cocoa-brown when dressed out. I use a lot of this wood but have only seen the brown stuff a few times. The sheath is in the Paul Long tradition with a tooled leather inlay. It was going to be dyed black but when the handle turned out brown.......

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Beautiful bowie and killer sheath, too. I think the deep brown of that wood is just gorgeous.

Terry, looks mighty nice. Elegant yet simple, not an easy task.
I like what you did with the low count damascus and the unit really flows.
I'm sure your customer will be more than pleased. WD

Hey Terry, the knife is great!......but that is relative to what I have come to expect from you.

The sheath is spectacular, though. Very inovative and in fact I will probably steal your idea and do a tooled inlay one day (with permission, of course).

Knife and sheath compliment each other perfectly.

Beautiful pair. Boy that sheath is great. Tooled inlay, the border fringe for the stitching line (if Paul steals the tooled inlay can I steal the border fringe? :p)...
Holy cow there's a lot of good stuff going on with this pair.

Another great Vandeventer Bowie.

And I'll comment on those "S" end overlays on the sheath, I like 'em!

Terry,

The low layer turkish turned out beautifully. Very nice! I think that sometimes we get caught up in high layer stuff and forget that sometimes less is more. Someone is going to be very happy.

I haven't had any blackwood that color for a long time. Years ago I got some that had a little of that color and wish that I could find more. I like it!

Terry,

Another great piece as we have come to expect from yup. The low layer count Damascus is really striking and the Blackwood is just fine. Your sheath just completes another stunning set. Very well done! It is always a treat when you post up a new piece.

Thanks for sharing, Jon

That is just an incredibly nice knife AND sheath Terry. It exudes class in design and quality work!

Pleasure seeing it,
Peter
