Hi guys, first post!

I have this axe I don't know much about. I know its African Style and believe it’s Sapo. Do you know if this is just a replica of an earlier axe? Any kind of date you can put on it? If it’s a replica that's ok, I still love the design but would appreciate some help with dating.

Thanks all

You can view it here

I cannot see the photo, but are you sure it is an African axe? I ask as I have a photo of Gaucho knives, most that look like rough Chef's knives, and one is clearly stamped "SAPO"? John

Sorry, not familiar with this adding photos process yet but it's this axe... https://venturevanguard.co/african-sapo-axe
You linked to a web page. If you want a photo to appear in your posts use a link to the photo. In this case the photo link is:

Using the Insert image function in the editor gives:

It somehow looks like a replica to me , the style is African , but the blade and handle are too well finished to be genuine to me.
This is only my opinion mind , I could be horribly wrong :)

Not sure if tourist or not. it was inexpensive. Got it online with little info. It is too nice to be vintage I think. But I still love the style. Also no markings.

Whatever the case, it does an excellent job at emulating that style.

It might be imitated, but that is a very simple, I suspect very old, design or method of combining a iron blade to a wood handle. Copper or bronze would be easier to cast to a better shape, glass or stone knapped would be too fragile. Just what I see....
