This one took a while. The blade is Bertie Reitveld's Dragonskin Damascus, and the scales are O-1 tool steel masterfully engraved by Jim Small.

I ground and heat-treated the blade, assembled the knife, and sent it off to Jim. When I got it back today, I hot-blued the whole works. I think it came out pretty well.

A closer look at the engraving...

It came out better than pretty well. The more I see your knives the more I think it may be time to expand my collecting beyond forged knives.

Wow!!!, What an incredible knife.....................WOW!!!!!!

Thanks very much for the kind words, guys. This one is on the table this weekend at the Wolverine show.

i guess it was a scary moment hot blueing such a beauty after engraving and assembly?
Do you guys have a foolproof method to blueing or is it just "spray and pray"?:D

"I think it cam out pretty well."...Modesty...don't you love it.

As stated above...this is way better than "pretty well". This is wonderful. How do you make the dragonskin damascus? I really like the look.

Absolutly stunning...

Question , what are the three white dots on the blade ?

Bertie Rietveld of South Africa forged the Dragonskin damascus from small ball bearings. I bought the bar stock from him and ground the blade from it. The 3 accents in the blade are 14K gold pins- installed after heat treat, but before finish grinding and bluing.

man thats skill buddy! One word sums up what I first thought...
DAMN!

Not for long I bet. That's a really beautiful piece of work Don but, what else would we expect from your skills. Thanks for showing this piece, I always love seeing your work. I'll look forward to seeing you at Ohio.

Very beautiful piece of art Don and truely inspirational, thanks for sharing it. Mike Kays
