AFSK as a hiking knife?

Hello everyone

First off if this is a dumb question I apologise in advance. I'm looking for a bomb proof, work-horse of a knife to use when I go hiking and climbing. I have my eyes set on the Ontario 499, the overall length is perfect, it looks like it can take a beating and the reinforced sheath has basically sold me, but before I seal the deal is there any other knife which is more value for money? To get a 499 in South Africa is going to cost around US $90 and that is a hell of a lot of money, I'd hate to buy something so expensive only to be disappointed :(. Any and all related recommendations or advice will be greatly appreciated.

I will probably add more later, but have you considered a knife made by Arno Bernard who is from South Africa? I don't know the relativism between US and South African currencies or typical incomes in South Africa.

There are many really tough knives. The Kabar Becker BK-2 is one of them although it is a bit too much like a prybar to me for regular use. But it is a good knife and I own one.
