I recieved my first Hinderer a couple weeks ago from a member here on the forums.
It's a Gen3 Duratech 20CV XM-18 3.5 Spanto with a bead blasted lockside.
I immediately purchased the green/black MEFP scale from Monkey Edge.
As soon as I got the knife, I broke it down and installed the new scale.
It went right into my pocket and I thought I'd just share my thoughts, observations, and general opinion of the knife.
Right out of the box I was pretty amazed. The quality is apparent right out of the gate.
Ergos are great and it fits my hand perfectly.
The jimping as well as the placement of the jimping is well thought out and not overly aggressive. Highly functional without being annoying.
The action is smooth and the lockup is rock solid. The blade was perfectly centered before and after I put it back together.
The detent is not overly strong. The knife opens quick and smooth via thumbstuds, flipper, or inertia. The adjustability of the pivot allowed me to dial in the action to my own personal preference. I like that.
And on that note, the knife was very easy to break down and reassemble.
The Spanto grind inspires a lot of confidence. I find the grind very attractive as well.
The knife was sold to me used, so I touched it up on my Sharpmaker.
The 20CV wasn't overly difficult to sharpen and took a very keen edge. So far it's held very well although it hasn't seen any true hard use. Just some cardboard, packaging, zipties, etc...
I assumed, just by looking at pictures and watching videos, that the knife would feel a little too thick in my pocket. That's not the case at all. It actually rides fairly thin for such a large pocket knife. Very comfortable.
The clip holds nice and tight.
So far I really love everything about the XM-18 and have no complaints.
I really enjoy carrying and using it and it's found a permanent home in my pocket.
