About 3 weeks ago I sent a bunch of knives the the spa:

Stretch 2 cf
Centofante 3
Mlitary
Sage 1
Bug

They came back today and I'm pretty impressed. As always, they removed the scratches from the blades and sharpened them. When I sent the stretch in I expained how the edge near the ricasso was much higher (lower angle) than the rest of the bevel. They weren't able to fix that, but it's very sharp.

Centofante 3 (this turned out the best):

Military (they followed the angle on this really well; it had had a lot of metal ground off to begin with, not their fault)

So all in all it turned out very well. I am a bit disappointed about the stretch though as it was the main reason to send in all the other knives :p

If the angle is lower than the rest of the blade I assume you wanted them to lower the angle to match it? Otherwise, they can't add metal to the blade. They are all done by hand and a good reason to learn to do it yourself.

Yes.

I know how to do it by hand and quite well may I add.

Why did you send them in?Was there some other problem with them other that they needed to be sharpened?

I send in a large group annually. So I gather a group that may have some small issues (blade play, gaps, etc.) to "freshen" them up. I'm sure some people will disagree with that for some reason or another, but I like the service very much.

The whole point of this was to tell of what a great job Spyderco does.

Well, they sharpened that Military a lot better than you did so I guess you still came out ahead.

If you take the time to sharpen your own knives, You can set your own angle's. That way you don't have to be disappointed about how some one else sharpens your knives.

I am glad you are happy with the service and the results.

Spyderco seems to meet and exceed expectations for many.

Heiheit,

My Stretch is the same way. I have yet to sharpen mine, but I did notice that a while ago, right out of the box it was that way. I've also had a great experience with their CS.
:)

Interesting! Like I said, its not a big deal at all; I just found it odd. Glad you've had a good experience too.
