After much procrastination

I broke down and bought a new Honda Civic. My innate cheap bastardness allowed me to splurge on floor mats and splashguards on the basic DX Sedan. I wrote a personal check for half and financed the rest through my credit union. The process took about three hours and I got out the door for just over 15k. I dealt only with the internet sales manager and he was interested in only selling me what I wanted. He offered me the extended warranty and I laughed. He said I didn't seem like the type for it anyway. Besides, it's a Honda.

Way different from my previous '92 Hatchback. The '06 model has all around airbags, power steering(hate that), power windows and the wheelbase is stretched several inches from previous civics. It's almost as big as previous generation Accords. Horsepower is rated at 140 Bhp and it seems quick enough. I don't flog my vehicles anyway and taking it easy on the engine for the break in period seems like a good idea.

My procrastination stemmed from having a perfectly good '92 that I bought new. The only reason why I replaced it was because the girlfriend kept insisting that she was getting me a CD player for my car on my birthday and it would be stupid to put one in a car I was getting rid of soon. I think she hated the little eggmobile and would do anything to get it out of her life. Just to spite her I gave it to my brother who is surviving on a single income with four kids to feed. She'll still get to see it at family get togethers and whatnot.

Overall, I am quite pleased.
I better be. I tend to keep cars forever.

In my part of town most Hondas belong to gentlemen who install mufflers that look like clothes dryer conduit and sound like it too .
Aside from the ironing board sized wings they bolt onto their trunks the basic car is still a good one . They seem to go on forever and don,t drink gas like its free . What kind of mileage did your last one have ?

I had an 81 hatchback that was in the discontinued color of excrement brown. When you reached a certain speed, the car would shake like you were about to break the sound barrier. Unfortunately that speed wasn't much over the speed limit.

I also carried a hair drier and a long extension cord in the back. When it rained water would get into the distributor and made starting the vehicle difficult.

:p

I like Hondas. My wife had a Civic when we met, and now has an Accord. Good cars.

My mother had an Accord until she got broadsided. Great little car, and those Civics are quite popular now.

Our 95 Civic had 214 thousand miles on it, and did not burn any oil. Any.

My '92 has less than 150k on it and was wonderful. Never got less than 38 MPG on a tank. Long highway trips averaged 45. Only problem ever was the master control module went kaput. That was expensive($800 IIRC).
I've got three nephews and a neice that will learn to drive behind that wheel. That is worth more to me than I could have got for a trade in or sell it to another party.

My first was an '80 model with a 1.3 liter powerplant that churned out 55 horses. I got that one used and traded up after four years. Oddest thing with it's carburator. Being a 5 speed I became adept at downshifting to control speed. At some point the engine would die when I would do this below a certain speed. I think it was about 20MPH. Took it to some local garage and they couldn't fix it. Turns out the float valves inside the carburator would stick when using cheaper brands of gas. One mechanic told me to switch to Shell or Union 76 and the problem would go away. It did.

I love my Civic, even if the engine is crapping out. It's just fun to drive and gets great gas mileage. After 221,000 miles and a lot of abuse by previous owners I guess it's fair for the engine to have developed a bad oil leak. I'm seriously considering putting a rebuilt engine in and running it until the body falls apart.

My younger daughter has an early 2005 Civic. 36 mpg in city. 40+ outside city.

Better than my cycles.

My around town car is a 1992 Honda hatchback. Only got 63K miles on it. It's a nice little car.
