As some of you know, we just had a huge winter blizzard here in the midwest. The snow ended yesterday, but today the temp is -3 F with a windchill of -10F. So....my wife and I went out for a hike!:D

I took my BK2 along just for the heck of it. A little heavy for a walk in the woods maybe, but I didn't want to take my BK9 and in reality, once you have the knife on, you hardly notice the weight.. We were just planning on a 30 minute or so hike around some woods nearby on some land we own.

My wife walking out ahead of me.

There was some nice elevation change which challenged us in the snow. You can see some deer tracks here in the snow.

A nice creek runs through our property.

All in all, a fun time getting outside. Didn't have to use the knife for anything, but it was nice knowing it was along for the ride.:)

Oh yeah. Here's the required knife pic.(before I get shot:D).

Thanks for letting me share.

DUDE!!! That is awesome!!! You got a nice piece.............of land:D. The deer tracks were awesome, and I am getting ready to get my little bit of that snow storm here.

Nice BK2 in the snow pic, I loved that. Let me ask, just because there have been some discussion on this. I'm sure you had gloves on, but did that big honkin' chunk o' steel get too cold to handle effectively. Granted with a wind chill of -10 (:D:D I love the cold), any use with a bare hand would be painful, I was just curious.

nice. next time, dig a snow cave with the knife, and wait with it between your teeth for those deer vermin and have at one, make some steaks, start a fire with the remains of the deer's SOUL, and have a nice meal too. pictures required!

I missed this technique in the fire kit tutorial. Moosez45, could you update, please?

Great pics!

I'll get on that, Soul fires are easy to maintain, but hard to start, you need some yucca stalks for that, and some fibrous tinder for sure. I've got a few souls laying around from my last harvest, I'll see what I can get cooking.

Hey Moose! Thanks for the comments. It is a nice piece......of land too.:D

The cold really doesn't bother me much either. I'm an electrical contractor and I am used to using no gloves with tools in the winter. I live in Minnesota, BTW.

There are just some jobs you can't do with gloves in my trade. Anyway, the BK2 handled like a champ with gloves and without.

LOL!

I didn't even think of a deer's soul as a viable tinder. :D I suppose I should carve some utensils out of the deer's antler's too.

It's snowing pretty good right now. If it keeps it up, I'm planning a group pic of users in the snow tomorrow. That's the BK-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, proto necker, and EsKabar. Hope they hurry up with that Ritter/Becker knife!

We got a dusting here. Don't know if the kids will even get to sled. Here are those users. Forgot the durn EsKabar, but oh well, it's a half breed anyway. :D

Had another chance to spend some time at the land I own. My wife and I invited her sister to go on a little exploration trip.

It was a little foggy because the temp was hovering around 31-32F and the snow was wet. We saw a bald eagle fly over us at about 30ft high, buy I couldn't grab the camera fast enough to take a pic.

Found this cool old tree that fell across an old dirt path the runs through the trees.

While playing around the tree I saw this black spy capsule. I opened it up and found out that it was a GEOCACHE. It was signed by 3 people, one from Australia. I never knew this was on our land.

This old car has been down in this ravine forever. I don't know the story as to how it got there, but I've never been down to check it out. I told my wife I better go down there to see if anybody needed help.:D

My wife wanted to join me, so we climbed down the ravine(we slid) and started to look in the old car, and I saw an old piece of white sheet metal(lower right hand) covering a 50 gallon barrell on it's side. It looked like a den of some sort, and was peering inside when I caught a whiff of skunk. I threw my wife up the hill and I climbed up pretty fast. It would have been a long ride home in the truck if we had got sprayed.:D

All in all, a great day spent with family exploring the outdoors. My wife is still talking about how much fun we had and the memories we made.

Hope you guys had a chance to enjoy the weekend too.

i would leave a note with the geocache saying something like "hi, this *IS* on private property, and is cool/not-cool"...

find the actual cache on geocache.com and report in as the property owner or not - some people are cool with caches on their property, some are not.

mmm, that's quite the dog :) or sister? :)

truck ... a friend of mine made it his project to sawzall and remove a lot of "iron root" on his property. it's taking him forever, but he uses my dumpster from time to time.

Cant take the snow anymore.......

Nice pics, but I need some sun and heat

I swear Guyon leaves those knives in the stump, and carts the stump in and out of the house with a handcart........:D:D

Thanks! I told my wife that if we cut off his tail, and take a picture of him in the foggy woods, it would look like a black bear.:D
