Well guys, after years and years of nothing but BM, I finally had the bug to get a Emerson. I tend to buy what I am comfortable with so I tried to do as much research about the Commander before I bought one. After weeks of searching the forums sales, I found a new never used 2000 Emerson Commander.
I studied threads on all the bogus Emersons floating out there.

How did I do..? Everything look good?

Thanks... Out of my meager collection of Benchmade, ZT, Kershaw, Gerber, Buck,etc... I dont have a Emerson. I figured it would make a good EDC as well as a good field dressing/skinning knife. I prefer to buy from forum members and this one looked too clean to pass up. seller said he bought it new from a Emerson dealer about 5 years ago and the knife has been sitting in his safe ever since.

I assume you're asking if its genuine or a fake? At first glance it looks good, although the earlier ones are a bit trickier (for me anyway). But the slotted pivot, the philips head screws, the knurling on the thumb ramp and the clip all look good. The G-10 looks good and thick and nicely contoured. You can take a magnet and check that the liners are Ti....

If they are, then you have a genuine early release Commander there and a plain edge one too, which is even nicer. In which case, congrats! But the problem what that is its pretty rare so you might not want to use it for fear of reducing its value. :D

If you like the shape and design if I were you I would tuck that one away and grab one of the new stonewashed ones for a user, they are really awesome!!

Its hard tracking the evolution of the Commander over the years. Only one side of the liner is titanium right? I thought the liner lock was titanium and the other side SS? I dont have the knife yet. It is being shipped on Monday. These were the pics the seller sent to me of the knife so like any buyer I am looking at the fine details. :D

If you like the Commander when it arrives and you're interested in a skinner, check out the CQC-16. It has the same style handle but a deep clip point blade.

I saw that one. As a purpose built hunting knife, I will probably get one. I wanted to start my Emerson collection with a more classic EDC Emerson that will work in the woods as well in the pocket. I love the "one knife does it all" idea. I will admit that S curve blade on the Commander is very bad ass and that was factor.

It is a wicked recurve.

Funny, I'm not excited by combo edges, but a serrated section inside a recurve is really effective. On the Commander, it's unbeatable. But my own Commander is still plainedge. :)

Nope that early vintage would definitely be Ti on both sides. In fact they introduced the stainless on the non-locking side for a brief time around 2008/9 (if memory serves) but reverted back to Ti on both sides after a less than favourable response to the change. I guess they felt the possible loss in brand equity just wasn't worth the money they were saving.
