I'm wondering if I can get a better clip for my Kershaw Bump?

I've began to notice that all of my Kershaw's have really shallow clips. What I mean by this is that it doesn't have enough room to clip to a thick pocket like Levi's or cargo pants for work.

They will only clip nicely on something like a set of Dockers.

There needs to be more height between the handle of the knife and the clip.

Benchmade does this right, and so does Al Mar, and Spyderco. Kershaw and CRKT seem to have clips that don't want to clip on thick things.

I tried to bend the clip on my Scallion and broke the damn thing to my surprise.

I'm thinking if I order a replacement clip from Kershaw it will be just the same so I'd rather spend some money on an aftermarket clip but I don't know if any will fit.

Any ideas? :)

Check out a thread titled custom low rider pocket clips in the gadgets and gear for sale by individual section started by STR. He may be able to help you out. I have not done business with him but I have contacted him about making a clip for a clipless knife for me but have not gotten around to sending the knife to him yet.

You'd be best to make your own. Use the one you broke as a template for the screw holes.

That's not to say that you couldn't have one made for you, but making a pocket clip ain't hard.

Not sure about knifekits.com, but if you go to Texas Knifemaker's Supply, they sell titanium blanks that don't have any screw holes in them. That way you can use the one you have as a template to drill the holes. Most aftermarket clips already have the holes in them, which isn't what you want.

Don't know about the Bump but the Scallion clip is too wide at the top where the mounting screws are drilled for any of the aftermarket ones to suffice. they are just not wide enough. If the Bump is similar to the Scallion clip the knifekits clips won't work as replacements.

Kershaw will gladly replace the clips for you but if you want one with more room under it will most likely have to be a custom made one.

I have a Scallion here and duplicating that clip would be no problem. The Bump I'd have to have at least the clip to copy the part that mounts to the knife so the holes matched up.

Thanks for all the info folks.

STR, I may get with you about the clip for the Scallion as I really like that little knife and I cannot currently clip it to any of my jeans pockets.

I have no idea why they would make their clips like this.

I'll shoot you an email if you don't mind. :)

As Deathshead has pointed out its an anodized finish. Titanium being a 'reactive' metal can easily be made a color.

I can get pretty much all these colors and with a little work a couple more like yellow/gold, and sometimes a dull gray that are not shown here in this thumbnail. The numbers are the indication for the amount of voltage it takes to get that color. On some levels you can get various colors or shades of the same color. Like 50 volts produces what usually comes out like pictured here but 55volts can be more like an olive green. I didn't do the increments of 5 volts for this pic on all. Most of them are jomping 10 v at a time. If I were to show it from 20 to 25 to 30 to 35 I would have even more various shades and colors but that takes a while. I think this gets the point across. By the way, that is an upside down 9 and it moves up from there. 9, 12, 15, 18, then into the ten volt jumps.

STR,

Thanks again bro. I can't wait to get it. I'm hoping it's in my mailbox tonight as I been waiting to clip that bad boy back to my pants again. :)

I'll take some pics on my Black Scallion when I mount it.

Thanks for the extra screws.!

Thanks STR.

Here's what the nice new clip looks like on my black Scallion.

I love it and it fits my pockets like a champ!

THAT is just some fantastic work. I've complained about the thiness of the BM foldover clip that is used on the Rukus. Could you duplicate said clip making it thicker and doing away with the cutout? Also a foldover clip would be great on the BM Skirmish. I modded one of the Rukus clips for the Skirmish and it works but the same problem crops up, that being the thiness of the clip along with the cutout makes the clip feel flimsy. Let me know and I'll take it from there.

Thanks.

The Rukus? Oh man. I have been drooling over that knife since first seeing it.

I love that thing. Just haven't gotten around to trying to pursue one for myself yet.

Looking at the clip I'm certain I can duplicate it. There will have to be access holes to mount and screw down the screws. I could even anodize the clip olive green to match up to the scales better for you.

Someone else asked me about the Skirmish just the other day. I really need a good pic of the clip side on that one. All the pics I find on the web just don't show me what I need to see.
