aftermarket, custom or homebrew?

I recently got myself a SOG northwest ranger 2. I'm loving the knife itself, but in my view the leather sheath it came with is somewhat less than perfect. so I've been looking at a replacement.

the problem I am having is this:
I can't find any ready made (I.E. off the peg) sheaths that are intended to fit this knife, or that are a suitable size and quality. nor can I find any sheath makers who seem to have the NW ranger as a stock pattern.

so I either have to make my own, which looks to be an expensive option, due to the various kit I need. and since I have no leather working experience, it's probably going to take a few goes. Or I can send it off to a custom maker in the UK, If I can find one who can do the job.

does anyone know of a ready made sheath that will work?
and if not, which way do I jump: professional custom, or homebrew?

Believe it or not, the pro maker is probably the least expensive way to go considering all the materials tools, learning curve etc. It might seem expensive when you hear the maker's price quote, but when you compare known quality and no investing in the rest of it, it will probably be much less expensive. There are several good makers in the UK. Might try the sheath forum on British Blades for starters.. Good Luck.

I've had an idea of how to cut down the costs of giving it a go myself (by quite a bit) via a bit of re-purposing and re-cycling. and I need a project at the moment.
my fallback is getting in contact with a uk sheathmaker, my main worry with that was sending the knife off (which isn't as much of a problem as I thought it would be)
