Thinking about picking up a Presidio 2 as a real large user as we get closer to the colder months but my experience with the CF elite on the Bugout was less than stellar and wound up replacing it with aluminum aftermarket scales. Before I pull the trigger on a $140 user I wanted to check to see if anyone here has found someone that does aftermarket scales for the Presidio line? Micarta would be preferred but I haven't been able to track any aftermarket scales of any variety down myself.

I have one with the aluminum scales and it’s hell for stout, but heavy. You’ll probably be fine with the CF elite scales.

It is important to remember the Presidio 2 has full steel liners, which the Bugout doesn’t. I find it plenty sturdy, and it gets carried very often.

Thanks all, I guess I will pull the trigger. Will be good to have something that I can beat on as things cool off and pockets get bigger. Good to know that the CF elite has a different feel to it than the bugout variety due to the full liners. Might be a micarta project in the future but we will see how the stock CF elite scales play out first.

This is kinda where I was at with it. I had the aluminum one first, both are great, but I preferred the weight savings of the CF Elite. I may also try making some other scales in the future, but I’m fine with them the way they are if I never find the time/motivation.

A micarta Presidio would absolutely rock, but if it was mostly the flexibility of the Bugout that bothered you, yeah you won't be in any rush to find a good scale maker for it
It was more the kind of hollow feeling thwack you get when deploying the blade. Kind of the vibration through your hand I guess? If that makes sense. I know it was 100% a feel kind of thing there is nothing wrong with the material in terms of functionality and durability. We will see how I feel about it on this blade its on order and should be here soon

IMO the CF elite scales are the most important feature of Presidio II - they make such a large knife much lighter, better balanced, less prone to scratches, and much cheaper while the function of the knife is not compromised as compared to the original alum version. I am all for upgrading the blade steel though.

Oh I understand why they decided to go with the CF elite. In terms of functionality the material is great. Lightweight, strong, durable, doesn't stain or wear, I totally get it. It's just more of a feel thing for me and my experience with micarta has been its been a fairly lightweight material depending on how its done. The Presidio 2 in CF elite is supposed to get here today so I will hopefully have some thoughts on how this is executed compared to the Bugout.

Does anybody know about a source for carbon- fiber scales: for the Mini Presidio?

Bump here to see if anyone in the meantime has started producing any scale replacements for the Presidio 2. So far the CF elite is fine but the more I carry this thing the more it screams for Micarta

I think I'd like to slap on some "real" carbon fiber...
But Micarta is a close second choice!

Real CF would be a close second for me its just such a hard user some black canvas micarta would be perfect for it. Unfortunately so far my searches have turned up a distinct lack of aftermarket support for this knife which is unfortunate. Lots of options out there for the Grip, Osborn, bugout and boost but virtually nothing for the Presidio. Right now for your money the presidio 2 really is making a good argument for beating out the full size grip it just needs some new scales to dress it up right.
