Aftermarket Sheath for TAK

Upon the recommendations of people from this forum, I purchased an Ontario TAK. LOVE the knife. It's a perfect fit for size, function, and durability.

However, the sheath that came with it is really lack luster. :( The nylon strap that is supposed to snap across the handle barely makes the trip and, even then, snaps across the thickest part of the handle... making for a less than secure fit. It is below my standards for carry.

I'm most likely going to have a leather sheath for the knife made. However, it would still be nice to have a nylon when I'm out in the muck and wet. Has anyone had any luck with aftermarket sheaths for the TAK? I tried in in the Blackhawk I have for a Kabar and the TAK was too wide.

Thanks in advance for the help!

You might consider kydex sheath from Eric at One Scene Tactical. Eric is a great guy, and makes top notch sheaths for a working mans price. Just an option.

This list was supplied to me by Dr. Bill, thought I'd pass it on.

You could take some 1" webbing and make your strap to secure the knife in the sheath. All you need is a pop rivet, 1' webbing, and a snap kit that you can buy for like $5. I do it all the time.

sharpshooter makes some excellant sheaths... as well as eric at on-scene..

Another vote for Eric. I've got his sheath for Vic OHT, and it looks like the sheath will be around a long time after the original OHT has worn out and moved to SAK paradise.

Kydex, Normark/Eric is top of the line. Spec Ops makes a excellent sheath also. One Stop Knife Shop has the best price. I've used the Spec Ops with several knives I've made. One went to Afghanistan the other to Iraq.

Scott,
thanks for the OneStopShop referral.

Regarding the SpecOps sheath.
I have been looking at the SpecOps survival sheath.
In one plasce, it sez: Small holds up to a 6 inch knife blade, Long holds up to an 8.5 inch bladed knife.
In the description it sez 5" and 7". Man, I wish they could make up their minds.
Do you know which it is, by chance?

Also, No where can I find what width of blade it can handle?
Do you think it will handle a 2" wide blade?

The short Spec-Ops Combat Master holds up to 5.5" and the short Spec-Ops Survival Sheath holds up to 6". They're great designs! I just received the short Survival Sheath (6") and my Buck Nighthawk (6.5" blade) fits perfectly in there with just a very, very, very small portion of the tang exposed above the kydex insert of the sheath.

Survival Sheath holds knives up to 1.75" wide and .25" thick.

I've bought the large Combat master and it will hold my 8" Buffalo knife. As stated above, it holds a blade up to 1 3/4" wide 1/4" thick. Possibly 5/16" thick.

Thanks Scott and Glockersharp for the specs.

The knife I am sheathing it just over 8" long and just under 2" wide.
I think I am cutting it reeeeeal close.

My other option is get a pouch and fasten to a kydex sheath.

thanks guys... appreciate it!!
