I got to take a few pics today, while I was playing in the backyard. I missed my hike today on account of a bad hangover, and overslept. It happens.
Anyway, off we go.
For your consideration, the Spec Ops Survival Sheath, and the ESEE5 sheath.
The Spec ops is a great sheath, nice and light, well made, but not much cargo room. That's ok, because it does hold the knife well, and protects me from the edge.
The inserts are quite different, the Spec Ops has a "generic" thermomold plastic, that fits the BK2 perfect, but will accomodate other blades of similar length and width. Perfect fit, and well designed. The flared opening makes resheathing easy, and safe.
The ESEE5 sheath insert is quite rigid, and dimensioned to fit the ESEE5/BK2 perfectly. With the paint on a BK2, it won't fit in this insert, without modding it to be a little wider. Both inserts are removed by taking out a screw at the bottom. Easy Peasy.
Cargo space on the Spec Ops is limited, to something smaller than the ASK that we have all grown used to. I don't understand the zipper/snap closure thing, it seems to limit the amount of usable space. You can leave it unsnapped, if you wish.
Here is a pic of each sheath displaying its contents.
The Spec Ops pouch
Here is the tin and blanket applied to the Spec Ops sheath.
While I was outside, my girls were working on a few skills of their own.
I do like both sheaths very much, and have plans and uses for both. I like having my kit with me, but damn that thing gets heavy, I like the lighter Spec Ops sheath, and with some paracord stuffed in the pouch, a bic lighter, and a small fishing kit, its will make a formitable sheath option, as well.
:thumbup::thumbup:
Two thumbs up for both, unfortunately, you really can't get either anymore. You can often find them around though.
