I finally broke down and bought a Kukri last month and guess what, the sheath sucks. My question is, does anybody know anybody who makes a better, possibly kydex sheath for Kuks, at a decent price? I can send specs or even the Kukri if necessary.

What model and size kukri? The kmfr sheaths that Yangdu sells work great for models 18" and under plus they are just $20.

Whats wrong with the sheath it came with? Why does it suck? Which kuk did you buy in what size?

I kind of like the traditional sheathes, though I've worn one cat skin (you can never be too quick in bear territory). The more information we have the easier it is for people to help you?

Here is the link to the Kuk I bought:

The reason I don't like the one that came with my Kukri is not secure while it is in the sheath. I want to wear it hiking etc. and fear it will fall out or the cheap belt loops would break off.

Glad that you clarified what you bought. It is not Hamilayan Imports so a moderator might choose to move this over to the Cantina...

You might want to take a look at the one pictured in this link denoted "15 inch 20 ounce BAS by Lokendra. Horn handle. Great for backpack and hiking. I am offering this knife with KMFR sheath at $75 YBB".

That KMFR sheath is available from Yangdu for about $20 plus shipping. It is a bit more western traditional and can be made to be pretty secure. Your particular item might be at the length limits for this sheath though. I have put up to a 17-1/2" overall length kukri in this sheath but that usually means that the kukri hangs out from the cho on. About 11" of blade fits comfortably within this sheath.

If you do some searching around the forums I believe that you can find a custom sheath maker who will create something for you too.

They do sell kydex in sheets, you could always make your own. You'll need a rivet gun, some good shears and some patience to get it perfect. Next time buy an HI, at least you wouldn't have to deal with the cheap belt loops.

I agree with danboy 357. Why not make you own? It isn't as hard as people think. You need:
- molding press
- drill and bits
- heat molding gun
- .080 KYDEX material
- shears or Dremel
- rivets
- and a few other items.
In the beginning if you don't have the equipment it might cost more for some of the things you can not make but in the long run it IS cheaper and most of all FUN.

Another option is to replace the frog with a belt swivel and add a retention strap. You should be able to do it yourself for around 15 bucks worth of scrap leather and hardware.

sweetcostarica, That is what I am looking for. I may just have to breakdown and start buying the stuff to do it myself. Thanks

My pleasure. I am not the smartest tool in the shed but I decided to make my own Kukri, Parang, Enep, and Bushcraft knife sheaths. And you know what I did alright. First one was so so. Second one was better. Third easier/better still. So once you do one or two you you will get the hang of it. Check out these videos:

Note: I use a regular oven to heat my kydex. Enjoy your next kydex project .
