First off, Uncle Bill, let me apologize for not getting the itinerary of the trip to you in time. I hope the kamis took advantage of the free health care, but it is probably unlikely that they knew about it. The trip was a big success by the students' opinions, and they had the opportunity to help LOTS of Nepalese people, the opportunity for which they are very grateful.
An interesting note is that the students were given the opportunity to have a reception with the Crown Prince of Nepal. One of the students, an attractive young woman, even went out on a romantic dinner date with him! Interestingly he is very sensitive about being assasinated, so he was armed always and had an entourage of Uzi-armed bodyguards surrounding him as well. Why the political tension there?
Also, during the reception, the guards were rather adamant about no photos being taken of the CP because he was holding an alcoholic beverage, so they physically blocked photos from being taken!
One last thing I observed is that several people came home with khukuris, and all were junk. Not the quality the real kamis make, by any stretch! One thing I am envious of, though, is one guy was sporting a silver khukuri tie clip this morning. VERY cool, indeed. Is there any way we can obtain some of these?

Thanks for update, Chiro.

The Mao Communitst are into terrorism and I suspect that killing the prince is on their agenda. I am not at all surprised that he is under very heavy security.

We can get the tie clasps.

Khukuri FAQ

FWIW there has long been a custom that US presidents are never photographed smoking. There's no law against it; the media just voluntarily observe the custom. Some US religious groups consider tobacco satanic or something like that ... this long predates the discovery of the link between cigarettes and cancer.

In a country with a lot of Muslims it's easy to see why a prince wouldn't want to have pictures of him drinking alcohol published.
