Aftermath "Snap"?

Hello Folks:

Just wondering how much "Snap" an Aftermath has when opening. Just received it on a trade, and it opened slower than I expected, not much snap. But this is also a big, heavy blade, there is lots of mass to get moving, and the autos and assisted opening knives have been lots faster, but they only had 3"-4" blades. I guess I'm wondering what concensus is in regards to opening this beauty. Do I send it to Camillus, or is the slow opening just a function of this knife??
Any opinions appreciated,

Greg

I don't think you'll need to send it in. Everything you said is correct. The mass of the knife blade keeps the speed rather sedate when compared to smaller blade knives. Camillus could have set it up to open faster, but there is a serious concern about getting a big blade to open like a smaller one. It would feel like it was going to jump out of your hand. I got to play with a prototype of a 7" Maxx Darrel was working on that had the Robo Assist. He had it tuned to open fast. If he didn;t warn me to hold onto the knife, it would have popped out of my hand.

my Aftermath seems to open fine for such a large blade. not as fast as my Auto Daltons (Battle Dragon & Assassin), but quick enough for me. it positively locks with a THUNK. i don't feel mine is "slow" to open though.

Mine was a little slow when I got it but backed off on the pivot screw just a
"skosh", and made it just to my liking. Still no play vertical or horizontal, and only backed off like an 1/16th-1/8th of a turn.
Mine is just as fast as my Dalton Assassin now, at least feels so.
I was able to select through a few at a knife, and gun show when I bought it, and the one I picked is so close to the custom version in workmanship, quality, and action can hardly tell the difference. Nicest prodcution knife I own, and I have quite a few :) I got it a few months ago when they first came out.
She is a "keeper: :D

Hi, Greg,
I'm glad you like the knife.
I had a copy of the Paragon Seal knife that had a heavy blade and was an auto, and yes it opened a little slow.
According to what I read from your post, I think you might just have practice a bit, the blade was a little stuff, but after a couple of flick I was able to get a quicker opening and a pretty loud "cuh-chuk".
I hope that helps you out.
By the way, if you're really brave, you might want to try skeletonizing the handle...... I just thought of that, I know it's not the easiest thing to do, but you never know.....
Good Luck
