Hi guys, thanks in advance for any wisdom that can be imparted here.

I just bought a new Microtech L.U.D.T this weekend.

I set off to purchase their black cerakote and black hardware version. Only the firing button is not black and that’s a beautiful gold hue, really really beautiful knife.

Anyway, the specimen they had was faulty, cerakote was peeling from the blade so i passed on it and bought one with a stonewash blade. Same great knife, i just wish it was a bit more murdered out.

Anyway, there is a company that can help get my blade and hardware DLC coated, and they seem to have a good reputation. It’s way of knife. They can do the blade and hardware in DLC, and i think it’ll look even better than the cerakote job microtech does.

Im trying to read about the adviseability of this. I know it’s applied with fairly high temps. Anyone know if the DLC process would threaten the heat treat on my blade (M390)?

I can say that DLC is prized for it's durability in the handgun world. It's way tougher than pvd, ceracoat, melonite, and bluing. It's appearance (high polish, matte, brushed, etc.) is determined by how the metal is prepped prior to application. The knife guys here will know more than I about how the application may affect heat treating. I do have several knives with DLC coated blades including a Vero Enginneering Synapse XL in M390.

It would be best to reach out to Way of Knife and discuss it with them if you want to be sure. It has been stated before that Way of Knife does DLC work in the 325-400° range, and that is within the tempering range of M390:

I agree with way of knife, they did the dlc on this stonewashed blade and pivot/screws. Here it is beside a regular stonewashed blade. Ignore the fingerprints on the blade IMG_3098.jpegIMG_3099.jpeg
