I'm back in Newfoundland for a couple of weeks, the last time before we make the big move back from Peru at the end of February. I took Sunday off and went for a drive just outside of St John's for a hike. It was blowing a gale, must have been 60-70km/h when I took this photo at the end of Blackhead Point, it's so windy here that the snow only accumulates in the hollows. It's acutally snowing but it's blowing by too quickly to see it in the photo. Normally the view from here would have been quite spectacular looking out over the ocean from the top of a 100m cliff.

found some shelter in the trees back from the point and stopped for a spot of tea

It's a beautiful rugged place....

Beautiful spot. It's great to try to slow down and take a little time occasionally - it's amazing what all you can see. Had a great, but brief (it was 112-degrees) afternoon in Joshua Tree, CA a few years back.

Very cool pics. I dated a girl from newfoundland for a while back in high school, intresting times.

When I said "Party at mcrob's" I forgot to mention "BRING SOME WARM CLOTHS!" LOL

Beautiful Picks! You sound like you get around a bit. Very cool place! I spent some time in Denmark under similar conditions, makes for a bit of a fuss when trying to perform duties.

Be safe!

Thanks for posting these great images
Signal Hill "guarding" the mouth of St John's harbor is really neat.

Here is a photo of the Cabot Tower atop Signal Hill taken last summer, this is the tower you can see in the photo above. This hill top has played a vital role in the defence of St. John's over the centuries (see here).

This is the view S-SE from Cabot Tower looking back across the mouth of St. John's harbour towards Cape Spear lighthouse, the most easterly point of land in North America. Blackhead is where I began Sunday's hike.
