I was inspired by another wild edibles hike thread to take the afternoon off and scrounge for some edibles on a local trail. I am no certified expert at anything so do your own research. With that being said the first find at the trail head looked and smelled like mint.
Wild scallions are a win and found these in a clearing near the parking lot.
The green stalks are good.
So are the bulbs. They tend to be best early in the season which is now.
Clover. No red or white flowers yet.
Hemlock.
Eastern White Pine.
Naturalized Norway spruce, well looks that way to me.
I don’t often find these three in the same area. I have made needle tea from the Pine and Hemlock before.
Wild flowers with potential.
Some of the best tinder in the woods. This stuff catches fire if looked at cross eyed. We have a few local birches but this one rocks for tinder.
It was getting late and ran into this. Honestly I didn’t know if these are edible and never willing to just “risk it”. I let them be but hope someone here could help ID it.
Thanks for looking.
