The catalog has that knife for $100.
I think the Alpha is superb knife. Not crazy about the gut hook though.
I wish that Cabelas would offer the standard blade.

So to answer you question, I say you did fine esp if you like Alphas.

Me too. The 277 is one of my favorite knives and if the AG model came with a standard blade, I would be all over it like white on rice.

@ DCNFROST - I think that deal is a good one.

I don't care for the gut hook blade... :thumbdn: ... That's just me...

I kindof like the gut hook myself, man you can unzip a deer hide in second with that thing if you keep it sharp.

I never had too much trouble "unzipping" a deer with a regular old drop-point blade, and when you're using a gut-hook knife for anything else, it just gets in the way.

Good price on the knife, though!

So would a 277 folding alpha with ATS34 or CPM154 non gut hook work for you? Wouldn't be that far from S30V.

Just curious....

i have had both gut hook and standard blade
the gut hook at times did get in the way but i still like it better
the standard blade went to the sand box
any with special steels should preform verrry well!

Absolutely, PR! Either steel would be an excellent choice. I have a BP 110 with CPM154 and it has been great.

Yep .... I've never been in such a big hurry that saving 30 seconds was enough reason for me to get one ...

Lots of folks swear by them though...
