Hello,

I've been looking at getting an AG Russel Scout knife for quite some time now. I'm interested in hearing any reviews and thoughts any owners of this knife may have. Pics are always appreciated :D

Thanks

Probably the worst production knife I have got :(
I like Scouts, but the blades were so badly stamp-cut that all the edges (non-cutting) were noticeably rounded, and whilst some blades were sloppy enough to be dangerous, others were real nail breakers.

All this was made worse by the fact I e-mailed AGR to find out if it was in stock prior to ordering (as I had had been caught out by this in the past), and despite being told it was in stock, it still took two and a half months to arrive

A far better version was the Schatt & Morgan Scout I got afterwards. The AGR Scout went into the drawer after a week, the S&M Scout got carried quite a bit last year.

Wow - that is quite unlike my experience with them and unlike the only AG knife I have as well. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I'll look up the S&M version and check it out.

Thanks

I like mine, I only have two complaints. The first, and most important one, is that the edge was too thick. I had to spend quite a bit of time regrinding it. I'm fine with sharpening a new knife, but this was a lot of work and has kept me from buying more AG Russell slippies (the edge on my other two AGR knives was great, a Woodswalker and a Featherlight).

My second complaint is that the springs don't seem to be stainless. I bought this knife for summer carry, as an alternative to my carbon steel knives. The backsprings started to stain and rust right after the first day in my pocket.

I have the AG Russell Premium Scout knife and it is very nice.Fit and finish is very good with good walk and talk.I like mine a lot and even though I don't EDC it I carry it quite a bit. The main blade is 154cm and gets and stays sharp.

Yog,
Give AG russell an email. I think they will make it right. They have some of the best customer service in the business.

Myright,

I do believe that they were made by Camilius before they went under. I really wanted to get one but they were gone before I mustered up the mulla. In general I have heard good things about them. However, as will all production knives, you may wind up with a bad apple.

God Bless

Own one in stag, another in bone. They're OK, but like Franciscomv said, the blade's edge is really thick and needs re-profiling out of the box.

Also, I never had a problem with the backsprings, but the bail corroded as soon as I started carrying mine.

That was my experience also minus the email AGR part.
I ended up giving it to a friend who's boy was in cub scouts.

and that is what guarantees are for. I hope he will return it. Lots of folks would love to own it.

thick edges are one of the hardest parts of my business, I like them .008 and makers want them .018. It is a constant battle, it has gone on for over 40 years.

Got two new scout designs on the board now - out in about a year.

I bought two of them and gave one to my brother. They are very nice knives, tougher than a old boot and have served their purpose very well. I am planning on taking it to Guatemala for my emergency knife. I have purchased several knives from AG Russell and I know he stands behind his product. Heck if you don't like the knife you can send it back, get another one, get a different one or get your money back. He's a square shooter and he has been honest with me.
