Well after months of research, and driving many times to the local Sebenza store I finally decided to get an Acies. It arrived in the mail about 4 days ago. Wow, am I satisfied.

I had read all the Acies threads in this forum and had spent a couple months reading much of the Chris Reeves Manufacturing threads especially when they pertained to Sebenza’s. That was a lot of information.

I narrowed my decision down to two knives. The large Sebenza and an Acies. I ruled out various other knives like an Xm18, Striders, LionSteel SR1, mainly because they were too heavy duty for me with such thick blades. Or the Spyderco Military S90V CF just because, err…well I still like it.

The Sebenza is a very fine knife and I understand why it is the standard to which most compare (it’s well documented in the forum). I may still get one of these, or maybe I’ll just get a Mnandi instead now that I have an Acies.

I was leaning toward the Acies because of a number of reasons:
I think the blade shape is one of the pretties I’ve seen,
I didn’t own a ZDP-189 blade and it appealed to me, (arrived very sharp)
Blade to handle ratio
Blade Height
FFG
Dual thumb studs and nice grippy thumb stud shape
Satin finish on the Titanium scales
Very smooth and Quick deployment
Hinderer lock bar lock

I did have some concerns regarding the Acies before I bought it because of the video I watched made it look like the Lock bar was flimsy. Well now that I own it, and have handled it I can honestly say the lock bar on mine is fine. Definitely firm enough and locks up definitively, no play any were. I think the hinderer lock contributes to the firmness.

The one thing I can’t rave about it the firmness of the clip. The thing is hard to clip to my waistband, a little too firm, but I know I won’t lose the knife.

Overall I'm very please! :)

It's a really nice knife - one of my favorites.

I switched the clip to allow for tip up carry, and the pressure exerted on the framelock helps add stability. I also have no issues with the lockup when the clip was in tip down position.

Overall I am also very pleased - I've had mine for a few months now.

That being said, I also have a large Sebenza, a Mnandi, Striders and many more. Variety is the spice of life.

It does get difficult some days to pick one to carry - I always want to carry 2 or 3.

I think I'll switch the clip too. I think I'll like the grip better to be able to grip with my pinky and ring finger I think it would be more comfortable for me.

Awesome knife.

Thanks for the post.

Hi Tommyguns -

Congratulations. I really like my Acies - and it is hands down the smoothest opening knife I own.

best regards-

hey Mqqn,

Thanks for the post. I know what you mean when you say smoooooth. It truly is my smoothest knife too. Speaking of smooth though the back side of the knive where the lock bar is and the hinderer lock, its surfaces are all smooth and flush. All the surfaces and spaces between part are even and close, must have very low torrerences.

Very nice fit and finish, I'd give it an eleven out of ten!

Look at the Bradley Alias I. Almost half the price of the Seb or the Acies. I have a Seb 21 and I carry my Bradley.

Thanks Palmerdl,

I considered the Bradley Cutlery Alias I, the blade was just a smidge thinner at only 3 mm vs 3.175 mm, but the thing that got me was the grind.

The grind only came up about 2/3 of the blade. I liked the grind on the Acies much better how it spanned the full blade height.

I hear the Alias deploys quickly though, and that appealed to me. I didn't like the blue piler either.

I hear lots of good things about it though.

I almost purchased one. It looks to be a great knife, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

I ordered an Acies late last week and it should arrive on Monday the 23rd and I'm very excited to give it a try. I've carried two larger knives in rotation as my EDC for years, the Benchmade Skirmish 630BK1 and Spyderco Manix C95. This past year I've decided it was time to move to a smaller EDC so I purchased the wonderful Spyderco Sage 2. I would like to find a knife in between the size of the Sage 2 and the bigger knives that I'd want to carry every day. Hopefully the Acies will be that knife.

While reading everything I could find on the forums about the Acies it was disappointing to see so much bickering between fans of other knife companies and potential buyers of the A.G. Russell Acies. As consumers we should ALL be glad, elated actually that there are so many great knives to choose from and several highly reputable companies making those knives. Having several high quality choices is never a bad thing when shopping for any product.

Never lose sight of the fact that the reason we're on these forums in the first place is because we have something in common, our passion for great knives.

I just e-mailed a link to this thread to A.G. I'm sure he'll be happy to read this.

Don't you just love it when the tracking on your new knife purchase says "Out for Delivery"......won't be long now and I'll have the Acies. It's been a while since I've been this excited about a new knife.:D
