The majority of neckers available today are fixed blades. In order to keep OAL to a manageable size this means blade length is often shorter and grip size is also on the small side.. AG Russell offers an alternative with his Featherlite One Hand folder with Kydex neck sheath. First some specs on the knife...
Blade: 3 1/8 inch
Steel: VG-10
Rockwell: 60-61
Lock: AGR One Hand
Handle: Zytel
Closed: 3 7/8 inch
Weight: 1.5 ounces
Made in Japan (should make the Chinaphobes happy)
The light weight of this knife makes it all but unnoticeable around the neck yet once drawn and opened you have a full sized handle to hold onto and a decent sized blade to use. I choose the drop point over the clip, just personal preference, and it arrived shaving sharp. The VG-10 steel holds an edge very well yet is easy to sharpen. The sheath comes with a steel bead necklace (think dog tags) which I replaced with paracord for the comfort factor.
It also makes for a great belt pouch knife fitting in most of the medium sized nylon pouches as well as dropping easily into a pocket. Made in both VG-10 and, for those on a budget, AUS-8, it comes in either a drop point or a clip point. It is available with or without the necker sheath with prices starting at 35 bucks.
Here is the knife shown in sheath along side my favorite fixed blade necker. It is both short and lighter.
Open however you can see the folder offers both more blade and handle.
I have been EDCing this for about a week now. It is very comfortable and at 1.5 ounces it doesn't weigh on the neck at all. It is fast into action and with it's large thumbhole it is easy to open. All in all a very nice knife.
