AG Russell is asking about a new slippie and lockback

Thats a hard call for me.

For 200-300 dollars I want to see quality of workmenship and materials equal to the pre-war Bruckmans, or the Hen and Roosters when the Bertram brothers were still alive and running the company.

I want real nice India stag (lots of knarls and popcorns) and plain carbon steel, 1095 is good, NO STAINLESS!!!

I'm not going to say no just on price, but for that money, I want to look at it, feel it in my hand, and hear my grandad telling me "Don't cut yourself, Pup, thats a real knife!"

sorry there never were any Bertram brothers, just cousins and the best knives were made after I bought the company in 1975 and before I lost it in 1980

If you are not a customer get on the mailing list so you do not mis out

Exuse me, I stand corrected; the Bertram family.

I have three of the old ones made long before you took over the company. All show exellent fit and finish, and sharpen up razor sharp and hold it well. They are some of the best knives I have ever used by anyone.

I have no experiance using the brand after you took over, as I already had a couple of them. Perhaps if you do indeed market a similar knife I will give one a try.:D

I agree with you, jackknife, on almost everything. I do think that a quality stainless could work in a high end slipjoint, it doesn't have to be "flavour of the month wonder steel" but something nice like 154CM, VG10, etc. would make a rather nice EDC knife.
