Anyone have any photos of a Russell scout? Who makes it for them? It's made in the USA so I am thinking it is Case. I will probably bite the bullet on it anyways as the quality is bound to be good, but I would like to see one in a real photo.
Thanks in advance.

I've been to the site and have seen the picture but it looks like a drawing. Thanks, but I'm looking for feedback from someone who has one and some closeups.
Right now I have a Camillus Cub Scout knife and an Ulster Dwight Devine Scout. The Ulster's master blade is broken off about a third of the way down. Either someone used it for a prybar, or a worrysome father thought the blade should be blunt. Even with the broken blade it is becoming one of my favorites. It tempts me to seek out another of the same caliber and I think the Russell will fit the bill.

I believe that they were being built for A.G. by Camillus. Which would mean when the inventory runs out, no more of them. The 45 pattern Case scout knives were made by Camillus under contract, which is why this pattern disappeared from Cases catalog the same time Camillus went under. Case replaced the pattern with their Junior Scout knife. The Junior is a nice little knife, but I like the full sized Scout knives better personally.

Not a drawing, someone just added the background relief in with photoshop. I have seen the stag and they are very nice knives.

Thanks for the info guys.I'm not crazy for the Case Jr. Scout. The bail is cheaply bent into holes instead of being peened onto a small rod.I feel it is over priced for some reason also. The Schatt & Morgan is a serious contender. It has the quality, but it has no bail so it moved down a notch on my shopping list.I have seen one older S&M with a bail. Hard to find though, I'm sure.
At some point I may try to seek out another Ulster. The delrin cales on the newer ones won't deter me from picking one up if I come across an Ulster or Camillus, but there is nothing like genuine bone.

If you want the absolute BEST scout/utility knife ever produced by a US maker....look for the older Case 6445R pattern...(not the 640045R). The 6445R was made in house by Case...CV steel, bone handles, and built like a tank with super thick blade stock. They were made from the 1920's through the late 70's ('77 or '78). Good used examples can be found. If you stick to the later years (XX through dots), used examples are often reasonable priced.

ALONZO KALASHNIKOV CHURCH collects " scout knives " and told me the A.G. RUSSELL scout knives were outstanding to the Nth degree in every way shape or form imaginable.

The Case I remember seeing in displays had a jigged wood.I would pick up one of those as well as any older Cases. What are the current prices of the different Mfgers? I have some watches out for Ulster & Camillus on the bay. Ulster is pre Schrade if my memory serve me. Did Schrade make one? A nice finishing touch on a Scout is the bail in Nickel silver. The Dwight Divine's bail has a little design to it.

Thanks for the Case tip Steve.Just looking at some on the bay and they look top notch

Case scout knives never had jigged wood handles. The 6445R made in house had jigged bone handles. The 640045R (outsourced to Ulster and Camillus) had jigged brown delrin handles (Case XX era examples had jigged black composition handles that were a synthetic other than delrin). Older 6445R's made in the early XX and Tested era's were also made with rough black handles.

Case used jigged wood on some knives (mostly the larger folding hunter patterns) but never on the scout pattern.

I own the A G Russell Scout knife and sorry I have no picture. It is a very high quality product. I purchased one for myself and one for my brother. It normally stays in my car for emergency situations and is razor sharp. I know it is one knife I can count on. I would not hesitate for 1 second to buy one.

I'm wondering now if I can't find some Case utilities in some hardware store somewhere around here. Probably cheaper than Ebay.

Slim pickings for Case dealers in New England (see the dealer locater on Case's web site).

And...Case discontinued the 640045R when Camillus went under, since they were being made for Case by Camillus. So the pattern has been gone from the Case product line for two years or so.

If there are any ACE hardware stores nearby, they carry Case. The selection can vary per store.
