Hey guys does anyone have any experience with Aga Campolin knives? I'm tossing around the idea of their Sicilian model.... Any input would be most welcome! Thx!

You might get a better response if you post this question in the switchblade forum (perhaps a mod will move it there).

Although I have no hands-on experience with AGA Campolin knives, I have seriously considered buying a few. But in my online research I've read and heard too many complaints regarding poor quality in construction, function, and fit and finish. I recently came to the conclusion that for the price it wasn't worth it to me to take the gamble.

If I were going to pay over $100 for a knife I would want to be confidant that what I received would possess a relatively high degree of quality and work properly out of the box. And if it didn't, then I at least would want to be able to send it back to the maker for fixing. Italy is a long way from my home state of California.

Like killgar, I've been shopping them too....especially the Siciians...and share some of his concerns. Having a number of knife shops in my area, none of them stock the Italians I want so I'm forced to shop online for them.

While I like the knives (and Campolins seem to be as good or better than some of the other $100-300 Italians out there) I have held off due to a couple of things I'm still deciding on:

The warranties where they are sold don't seem that good, many include a 'no return' or refund policy.....re-stocking fees, etc. just to buy one.

They don't seem to specify steels often. I'd like something in other than "Inox" or "stainless steel."

Not sure on what lock is best yet for an Italian....picklock, ringlock, bolster lock....sheesh.

I'm always a little concerned about springs breaking and the hassles of getting one repaired when it does happen. Haven't seen a lot out there that gives me much hope where service is concerned.

If you get one be sure and let us know what you think of it.....

Angelo Campolin is a member of the Dutch knife forum, and i just sent him the link to this thread.
Maybe he will participate.

In the mean time here is a nice story in pictures about AGA Campolin: http://www.sharperdeal.com/fredde10/italytrip.htm

That would be awesome! Thank you Kwackster! And Echoil and Killgar, I feel the same way as u guys, I've always wanted to pull the trigger on a traditional Italian, but never had the guts due to quality control among manufacturers? Awesome story too! Insiders look into the Maniago knife industry!

I'm not so worried about fit and finish of the Campolin, Beltrame and other good Itallian knives...I expect it to be acceptable at these prices.

My concerns have more to do with:

•the terms of the two or three distributors I've looked at online. No way you can order one, not like it and return it without great cost. I can't remember if they were in the U.S. or not.

•Second to that is time/ease of repair when needed. A necessary consideration where springs are involved.

•And I'd like a choice of steel/grind.

Can anyone recommend a decent distributor here in the U.S.?

I bought a Campolin Zero on June 1, 2018 from BladeHQ. I have carried the knife 4 to 5 times and I have opened it only 15 to 20 times. Uses have been very light, i. e., cutting string, paper, plastic bags etc...

Now the blade will not open completely 100% of the time. It is hit or miss whether or not it will open completely.

I have checked it for any foreign objects like lint etc.. and it is clean. The blade is clean and does not appear to bind anywhere that would cause it to not open completely. I have adjusted the torx head bolts on the bolster and it did not make a difference.

I sent an email to AGA Campolin today to see what they suggest.

BladeHQ has a 60 day return policy. I intend on calling them tomorrow to see what they suggest.

I would rather have a working knife than return it.

I'll post something once I hear from Campolin and/or BladeHQ.

07/18/2018 Update. I spoke to BladeHQ today. The tech did not offer any solutions that I hadn't already tried, i.e., adjustments screws.

With that being said, I used some compressed air in a can to blow out any possible lint, sand or other foreign object that I could not see.

I didn't see anything come out, but it is working fine now.

Here is a short video after a few blasts of air.

So here's my opinion of what the issue may have been: After a dozen or so uses, a small amount of the black coating and/or stainless steel had possibly accumulated in the action which restricted the blade from deploying completely. The compressed air removed the loose material which allowed the knife to work properly.
