Twice today I was cleaning up some grind lines and having no end of problems -- belts grabbing, skipping and generally poor results. It took awhile the first time to think of changing to a new sharp belt. Once I switched, the cleanup took less than a minute. The second time it happened was a couple hours later. The belt wasn't as obviously worn this time but switching to a fresh, sharp belt and once again the problems went away and the grind is cleaned up.
I know better than to use worn belts but the momentum of the moment, getting the line cleaned up, wouldn't let me think to switch. Todays lessons relearned are:
If what you are working on is proving to be a problem, take a step back and have a think moment.
and
Life is too short for dull belts.
