The colors they are creating/using are mighty eye-catching!
Thanks for showing them, Dennis!

I wonder of they have ever tried to approximate the candy stripe and glitter stripe patterns of the old celluloid. Or French ivory, Marine pearl etc??
Perhaps the process doesn't lend itself to geometric patterns?
It would be indeed interesting to see how the acrylic handle process works.

Very nice, especially the orange crush. It's funny, I was naming the patterns in my head without realizing it, then I was really surprised that there was not a list of them under the photo :D . Usually I figure I am reading them subconsciously and applying the names to the patterns that way :D

Of those shown, I think fallharvest and eggs&hotsauce are my favorites -- the orange crush is pretty nice too.

GEC has stepped up their acrylics. The older ones like Dead Skunk, Grits and Molasses etc had a muddy, cloudier look. The new ones like Hot Sauce & Eggs, Burnt Sky etc. just pop and the colors are very distinct and delineated

What, no green eggs and ham?:p

Nice image and some interesting looks to be sure.

Well, you've done it again Dennis. That Orange Crush really stand out. The Copper Snake is nice too as of course are all the others.

Nice selection there.

I've seen a colour only on a dealer's site that intrigues me: Green Velvet Percrylic. Does anybody own a knife with these scales and could show it please?

Regards, W

willgoy i think latham may have green velvet on his site . i believe he mentioned a while back that remington [old] made some similar celluloid. waynorth there are some celluloids that look like jello fruit salad in that the chunks of different material are suspended in the matrix.i'll check & if i locate any i'll post a pic.thanks guys for looking.

How durable is that stuff ??

grits & molasses---tortoise shell
i do'nt know if this similar to the type acrylic you meant, i do know that there's at least one on a site that looks like dice in water.

These are great knives to look at while listening to Hendrix. I can almost taste the colors! :D

Seriously, I have liked the acrylic GECs but always am concerned in the long run on whether scuffs and scratches will eventually dull the vibrant colors. Any truth to this concern?

Those are some lovely knives. I really like the design on the burnt sky, just draws my eyes.

Surely the acrylics can be hand buffed to restore a pleasant luster.
Does anyone know for sure?

That's a good looking group, Dennis!

if the acrylic is anywhere as tuff as the automotive clear coat it will be extremely strong. scratches should'nt affect the colors & if the surface gets fuzzy one should be able polish it with a little flitz. texas fly i think i drink enough color in the california 60's for a lifetime.

Here, for comparison, are a couple of celluloids that Schrade used before WWII.

Here is a modern version of the old classic "Candy Stripe" celluloid. This is the one I was wondering about, Dennis.

The modern acrylics certainly have a greater variety!
