Aloha ALL,

Welp, been awhile, but I hope everyone has been doing well.

Anyway, I got this Hissatsu Folder from my friend, Mr. Rod Bremer to test out. I have always loved the Hissatsu FB, and carry one from time to time during yard duty, so it was refreshing to be able to carry a Hissatsu "outside the yard". Some size comparison/ride height pics with some folders I had on me the day it arrived:

This folder is built like a tank. Also, the Outburst mechanism punches harder than I do! I like this style of AO because of it's overall simplicity. There's just one bar that fires off the blade, but it is a large bar, that is easily reached for cleaning. There is also a screw set up at the rear of the handle internals to turn the Outburst into a manual. However, I have not carried an AO for a long time, so I will be making use of the Outburst for as long as I can.

The Hissatsu Folder has a very sharp blade that I have found to be practically shaped for everyday use and not just for SD penetration. Even though it penetrates effortlessly into stacks of cardboard, I will be using my folder 99.9% of the time for uh..."normal" use. The Hissatsu blade works very well in all sorts of daily tasks.

The handle of the Hissatsu Folder is nicely textured like stingray skin. When held with gloves it's a dream. When held with sweaty hands it's still pretty grippy, but this is something I will attribute to the handle shape more than the handle texture. Speaking of the handle, the scales are placed kinda far apart, so be careful when adjusting the Hissatsu Folder into your pocket. My pinky is just small enough in that I poked it a few times already on the tip while replacing it into pocket. I have however, changed my technique. Another nice thing is that the Hissatsu Folder handle is abou the same size as the Hissatsu Fixed Blade. So if you are familiar with the Hissatsu FB, the Hissatsu Folder will require very little in the form of "muscle memory" once opened.

Oh yes, the Auto LAWK...I had no problem closing the Hissatsu Folder while at the same time disengaging the Auto LAWK. Just close the blade SLOWLY once you have both the Auto LAWK and liner lock disengaged, or the blade WILL slam on your finger. As we say here, "Just go easy-easy brah!"

Overall, I love this folder. It's very hefty, and the Outburst mechanism has a nice, crisp "punch" to it upon opening. The Auto LAWK does add a sense of security and I could not get the ala Walker Liner Lock to unlock while the Auto LAWK was engaged. One thing I did not like was the one screw clip, which is held in place by a depression on the handle. My clip wiggles a bit, but that's to be somewhat expected being secured in this manner. Also, I have run this folder through a lot of "SD on large diameter, fibrous weed thingys" in the yard, and the clip has not stripped out of the handle as of yet, and I hope it never does.

Mahalo much to Mr. Bremer for giving me the opportunity to use this folder, and to all those wondering if they should get one or not, I say yes. For EDC tasks, and in the mode of SD, (which BTW you can use the Hissatsu Folder both opened AND closed)...it is a tough folder, easily maintained, and just darn beautiful!!!

God bless all!

It's an excellent tactical folder. I gave one to a friend of mine and he still carries it to this day; every time he gets a new knife he usually gravitates back to this one.

Hey, Chad, thanks for the review. I haven't hear anything but praise for this knife. But you posted the best pictures! :D

If you took off the clip, would the screw still go in (to keep dirt out of the threads) without interfering with closing the blade?

the hissatsu folder is one of crkts best folders inmop, they dont cost that much either, they are definitely worth the price. it is definitely a robust folder.

its in the 60 dollar range.

Shoot!
Add another one to my list for when I finally get a job!

Nice pics btw.

I'd have to reshape the edge slightly- I hate tantos in any shape or form- but a mild reshape would be all I'd need to really dig it.

Holy crap. I didn't think it was that large.

Looks nice though. Might give one a swing.

The problem is it's too difficult to open. Under a self defense situation you don't need to fumble with opening a hard to open folder. Other self defense folders like waved Emersons and axis Benchmades open fast without a struggle to open.

Remove the AO spring and you'll have no problems at all.

Make sure you're pushing up and not out on the thumb disk. It's not hard to open at all.

??? I've only ever handled one and it was very easy to thumb-open so I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe your sample is faulty or needs adjusting. AO's make a lot of sense in tight situations where you don't have enough room to inertia open a knife.

Aloha sir,

Hope you had a Happy 4th...

I am with your buddy on this one...there's just "something" about this one, ya know?

God bless and mahalo!

My friend Esav,

I hope you have been well...

Ewwww...I dunno about the "best pictures", nor do I know the answer to your question about the clip screw, but I will check and see. However, there is NO way the clip screw will interfere with closing the blade, that much I do know...:o

God bless and take care!

Aloha 3mptin3ss,

Yeah, "robust" is definitely one way to describe this folder...it's a tank I tell ya! One thing I have always liked about CRKT was their price point also, and they do turn out a quality product...

God bless!

Aloha DRod,

Yeah, I didn't think it was "that big" either. I definitely also did not think it was as hefty as well...so if ya give one a swing, do so carefully!!!:D

God bless!

Aloha and welcome nim145,

"Difficult" is a relative word.

I have not played with an AO for some time...no, make that a VERY long time, yet had no problems opening the Hissatsu Folder at all. Ah well, that's just me, I guess...

God bless and be safe:cool:

I find that if you pinch the blade on the thumb wheel in between the handle it "Bursts" open.
