In U.S. too "No GUN, NO Knife" citizen's voice is more and more strong, I here, isn't it?
How it is said? I know NRA is resisting, how about knife? (In Japan, of course NRA is thought the incarnation of evil.) Is there such like NBA--No, NKA?
For concrete, how No Arm moved so?? When, how knife in school forbidden? Is there mothers saing "NO (GUNs&) BLADES FOR CHILDREN !" in the U.S. ?

Japanese arm hate culture is affected on pacifism of the Constitution 9th, like Japanese state religion. And Knihe hate have been so strong after Asanuma Inezirou assasination 1960.
But U.S. pacifism is not so strong, but how reason no arm?

(Full disclosure: I'm not originally from the USA. I don't know if this qualifies me to comment on American culture or not but here goes...)

The American culture has traditionally emphasised individualism and self reliance and I believe this has been the basis of a strong pro-weapons society. As you said the NRA is a strong pro-gun voice. There are pro-knife organizations but I am not knowledgable enough to comment on them specifically. I am not aware of any general "pro weapons" or "anti-disarmament" organization in America. Perhaps that is what we need. As American society embraces socialism I believe we will see more and more laws and rules aimed at reducing self reliance and increasing reliance on the State. That is how socialism gains power. It creates a climate of dependence.

I believe that a "pacifism" movement will take a lot longer in America than it has in other countries that embraced socialism. First the state has to eliminate all weapons and make the posession and ownership of weapons distateful to the general public. This will take a long time in America because of that traditional individualism. But it is happening. Already a child pointing a finger in the "gun" shape on a playground is, in some school districts, considered the legal equivilent of the child pointing a gun.

I believe that there is hope even in countries that have already given in to the anti-weapon anti-independence movements. And that hope is to just never give up. Always question new laws, rules, and regulations. Share you interests and hobbies with others and help build the base of interest in knives, guns, fly fishing, etc.

So please tell us about the state of knife collecting in Japan.

I have always said that gun control will never happen in my life time.

Think about that. I will be dead when guns are outlawed. Either I will have lived to an old age owning guns and will have died of natural causes, or law enforcement will have killed me to confiscate my property. Think carefully.

A United States citizen will have shot me (another citizen) under order from the government. My country will be in sorry shape by then, anyway.

What you don't understand in Japan is that having some schmuck in a gold hat tell you where to pee makes Americans very angry.

There are opposing forces at work in the United States, and it will be interesting to see the battles over the next 20 years. This country is the product of a rebellion for freedom from oppressive government. Since then our government grows more oppressive each day. We once proudly kept our armaments as a symbol of our freedom, and of our ability to determine our own destiny. Now many seek to ban arms out of fear for their personal safety, for reasons that are many times over sensationalized by a mostly liberal media. The day we succumb to fear, we are no longer the USA. My opinion, my belief.

I don't believe a "Pacifism" movement could be successful in the USA if it required the citizens to relinquish their arms.

I believe "Zero Tolerance" is the responsibility of parents, not educators.

I believe that the current glut of self-centered selfish people in this country are to blame for the youth of today. People have kids but have no time for them. Or people want to be their kids' "best friend" instead of a parent.

I believe that unless we become a country of close knit self-policing communities again, we are lost.

I believe that no one meant to yank my chain, so I'll back quietly away now.

This whole thing is FAR too complex to spell out in a few sentences or paragraphs. I have a degree in Far Eastern Religions and know a bit about Japan. They were ALWAYS ruled by a monachy up until recently. His word was law. Under him were feudal lords. Just like in Europe a while back.
America was founded in order to reject the tyranny of monachy and repressive government, and it was a freedom won with arms and blood. The founders of this country moved here for RELIGIOUS FREEDOM! Our country, its laws, constitution, and framework are completely based on the Judeo-Christain ethic.
The Japanese are one people, America is completely diverse.

I could go on and on.......................

A funny thing about the US. The more things change the more they remain the same. Ever since we started banning guns we have had a tremendous spike in gun ownership. Check the drawers of even the most rabid antigun liberal and you are likely to find a gun or knife. The culture simply goes underground, and acts politically correct, but the reality is something else.

This is a though population raised in a rough environment. The social net in the US is a complete joke by first world standards. Everyone here understands that, they are aware of the benefits such a system creates, as well as the risks. Despite what you hear most of us are prepared to defend ourselves.

I already live in a no guns, anti-knife society. It's called Canada.
I wish I had immigrated to the US. I like everything except the politicians =p
