Its been a long time since something like this has been done, so with this said what is everyone's age and at what age did you begin to collect, or become interested in knives?

34 and for me it was age 4

For me it was when I was six and Grandpa gave me a Barlow to wittle with. Still have it. Age: Double Nickel.

Now 54. Seem always to have been interested in knives and sharp things. I found a small pocket knife on the sidewalk when I was 6 that I kept for at least 4 years. I also got a tiny pocket knife in a Cracker Jacks box around the same time (imagine that!). My interest started so early that I can't remember some of the events. When I was about 12 I was looking for something in my mom's dresser. I found 3 pocket knives in there. When I asked Mom about them she said that she had taken them away from me when I was "too young to have them". I didn't remember any of them so I must have picked them up at an awfully early age. Maybe they came from my grandpa. She also said that when I was a toddler I liked to wander around with pieces of broken glass.

I'm 49, and started this "knife thing" about 40 years ago with the Boy Scout knife that my grandfather gave to me.:).

53 and got my first knife when I was 8 (give or take a couple of years) and my first knife would have been an elcheapo boy scout knife with tin sides.

58 and 6. My parents bought me my first switchblade at 8. The switchblade lasted 1 week. No one told me you shouldn't throw a switchblade.

I'm 43 and have always liked knives. I remember when I was 5y/o I would sneak my moms kitchen knives out and ramble through the back yard hacking weeds and such. Bought my first two real knives myself when I was 12 still have both of them.

I am 51 and got interested in knives when I was 6 or 7. The first knife that I purchased for myself was when I was 9. I started to collect knives just within the last couple of years. Before that I only bought knives that I was planning on using.

48 and I've been fascinated with knives and other sharp things as long as I can remember. Accumulated knives here and there over the years, but didn't really get started collecting until I found this place.

I'm 25 and my first knife was given to me by my grandfather, a victorinox at the age of around 10 but can't remember to be exact.

I'm 29 and I started getting interested at about 11. I never had anyone to give me any encouragement or guidance so I had to glean what I could from dealers, a handful of magazines and a couple of books before I discovered Bladeforums.

I've learned so much from you guys -- THANK YOU!! :D

I'm 43 now.....it was around the age of 6-7. My grandfather was a hunter, mostly pheasant. He could sure put an edge on a knife by hand. He had this big two sided hone and a steel .... after a few minutes you could shave with his knives.

36 now, but I can't remember back that far. The first one I remember was a craftsman stockman with 1 broken blade that I traded from another kid. I also did the thing with mom's kitchen knives and tree branches, a nice Cutco butcher that mysteriously developed a chunk of blade missing from it...;)

I'm 30, and I got a "fisherman's pal" knife when I was about 7, but I didn't start seriously collecting knives until I was about 17. I started out with Case, Winchester and Remington knives, and then I got a Spyderco for my birthday last year and that opened up a new world of knives to me.

24 now it all started when i was 4 my first knife was a pearl handled case xx knife that was my grandfathers, i still have it :)

I'm 31 now and started my knife addiction with my first SAK my father bought me when I was 8. My two year older brother cut himself within the first 20 seconds of admiring my present (it was clear then that he was not infected with the knife virus).

25 now, started when I was a wee little one. Always been around knives and guns and I've had a pocket knife for as long as I can remember, but my Buck Special my father gave me started the "bug."

When I was around 12, I made a few knives (no heat-treating or anything, just grinding files on a belsaw grinder --I didn't know any different.)

Last year, the urge to start making hit big, thanks to these forums. :D

Now I have knives and knife-making equipment to fit in my budget. :grumpy: :D
