I recently found this SAK at a flee market. I thought it was interesting because I have don't recall ever seeing them packaged like this, and there is no model name like most of the ones seen today. There is also no UPC code or date of any kind on the package.
I e-mailed Victorinox customer service a couple of days ago, but didn't get a response yet. Does anyone know the approximate time these were sold like this?

Thanks Rick

...They are still packaged like this - I bought a couple of 'MiniChamps' which were BlisterPacked the other week. The packaging may differ from country-to-country, or it's just a case of being the cheapest way to go by the manufacturer...

Frank.

Thanks Frank .Yes, I'm sure they are still sold in clampacks or blisterpacks, but it is the absence of the UPC code that makes me think it's more that a couple of years old. And no, it's not on the back either.

Yes those are the tools that are on the Huntsman, but there are two lines of Victorinox SAKs, the regular and the Ecoline (slightly cheaper), both have a knife with those tools. The Ecoline knives are unnamed (with one exception the "My First Victorinox"), look to see if the package has this 3.3703 on it anywhere (the product number for the Ecoline Huntsman like SAK). The key visual difference is the Victorinox Crest (the Ecoline is smaller and has thinner lines than the regular ones), also I seem to recall someone saying the Ecoline had nylon scales instead of the cellidor (and as a result the colour of the scales being slightly different).

KeithAM I think someone on SOSAK said Hooks were introduced in 1995, but I don't remember for sure.

sunshaker pretty much has it, that is an "econoline" Huntsman, ( although it may be called something else in Europe), with nylon scales instead of the smoother and brighter red cellidor scales.

The packaging is the cardboard pack with a plastic blister, instead of the all plastic pack.

The cardboard backed ones are cheaper and more common in the European market, which is why there is no UPC code.

These are new knives, I just saw them in 2 Shepard HIlls stores in Nashville, TN and Eddyville, KY 2 weeks ago.

Cost was about $17.00.

I like the Econo line for EDC - I've even switched out the Econo scales and put them onto a 'fancier' Victorinox. I just like the texture of the nylon; also, they provide a better grip (for me) and are resistant to scratches and scuff from pocket carry.

There've been many debates about whether or not the Econo models are 'lesser' than regular SAKs on BF, SOSAK, and elsewhere... From my own experience and the consensus that has emerged, Econo models are identical in fit and finish to other SAKs. They have the same Vic warranty, too.

Hmm... interesting to hear, I guess I joined SOSAK after that discussion. It is good to hear the nylon scales are more wear resistant (I've just bought some StayGlow scales which are nylon).

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll just open it up and use it to replace my old worn out Fisherman. The scissors are great for cutting fishing line, but I will miss the phillips head screwdriver where this one has the corkscrew.
PS. The only #'s I can see is a "P.B. 2026" on the lower left corner.

I also haven't noticed any difference between an econoline and regular Victorinox except for the nylon scales and the cheaper packaging, knife wise they are the same.
