I had a question just pop in my mind after reading a thread. Do you have to be at least 18 to carry a pocketknife in areas where they are normally allowed?

I've had a daily carry since I was nine, got "my" first knife when I was 8. It was an old metal handled case jack knife that had been my grandpa's. As far as I know minors can't legally buy knives wihthout the consent of a parent. After that its legal to carry so long as its a legal knife, and your not using it in a threatening or destructive manner.Thats from my experience here in ohio though. I don't think there are alot of laws regarding knives yet other than the usual concealed weapons stuff concerning things like gravity knives and switch blades. Things may be diferent in less knife friendly states or countries.

I say check the kid before you check the law...

some 10 year old are responsible enough to carry a fixed blade that has a huge potential while some 15 year old punks I wouldn't trust with a pair of scissors.. (the present company excluded - of course

Right on, Blilious. I'm a maker and my 10 yr. old son has been around knives all of his life. He has a small collection started and carries one everywhere except to school. But, some of his friends have no business anywhere near a knife of any kind.

Um ... would you believe laws vary from place to place across the world? Strange, but true....

Might want to check on whether that differing male/female age thing has been applied recently. I know in Mass., we have a law in the statutes against blasphemy. No one would think of trying to use it, anymore. I think that legally treating males and females differently was covered by the Equal Rights Ammendment to the Constitution, and am aware of several cases where this has been used to override state laws. The most glaring omission is the Selective Service, but most men don't want to be drafted, so even fewer women are likely to fight for that.

I know if they ever call my number, I'll want a decent knife on hand
