AGR Large Folding Hunter vs other XL traditional styled knives

I've been eyeing this for a while but have been burned by too many lockbacks in the past. Is this a design that will eventually develop rock lock? The description says it has a stop pin but that doesn't appear to be a triad lock style pin.

Are there any other very large traditional styled knives I might consider as well? I use that wording because while I like pocket clips I've grown tired of "ergonomic" handle grooves that never fit me.

There aren't a lot of large traditionally-styled knives out there. Don't have one but I'd imagine it's prolly about as good as large traditional production lockbacks get.

I've got the Sunfish and Gunstock, and, while I don't use them, in terms of fit and finish they are very nice. The Sunfish, in particular, is an incredible knife. I've also been considering either of the "Texas Ranger" models.

The 2012 Texas Ranger model has a 4-1/8" long, 1-1/4" wide, 3/16" thick blade, while the Large Folding Hunter has a 4-5/8 long, 1" wide, 5/32 thick blade.

I've used the large sunfish a lot. It's not developed any play. But if it did their customer service would have me covered.

This year's Texas Ranger is even bigger than the large folding Hunter.

Get one. You'll love it.

I see the new one on their site, but no where else. Was looking for some different pictures or videos, but couldn't find much.

I don't have the Large Hunter, but I have both the locking Barlow and Med Gunstock. I also have a few of the non locking AGR folders ( all AGR imports ).

All I can add is that the fit and finish of these knives is excellent. Two of the knives I bought , a large Sod Buster (Cowboy Knife) and the locking Med Gunstock were supposed to be factory seconds. But I couldn't find any flaws that would qualify these as second quality knives.

As far as the "stop pin" , it refers to a pin placed inside the frame the prevents the blade from striking the back-spring in the closed position. No matter how hard the blade slams closed, it won't strike the back-spring.

Another design feature that's used on most of the AGR lock backs ( including the Hunter), is a coil spring tucked inside the rear of the frame that replaces the complicated arrangement used on most other lock backs. So when you look inside the frame ,it looks like the inside of a slip joint. It makes opening and closing easier too.

Even the fit and finish on the inside of the frame is suburb.

Also on the knives I have , It looks like metallic washers are used at the pivot.

I really don't think you can find a better knife in that price range. The Hunter and the Sunfish are on my short list.

The new one has only been out for a couple of days so there just isn't much else out there yet.

Also it's only a small run so the amount of posts about these is fairly limited.

It doesn't really matter which one you get they're all very good.

The gunstock lockback is the smallest one. The rest are all huge.
