Another recent get from AGRussell. This tiny beauty is just 2inches long when closed. The blade is VG10 that keeps cutting and cutting. Handles are titanium and the whole thing is just over 1/8th inch thick and nearly weightless. I made the simple belt carrier for it.

I found the fit and finish to be excellent, as was the functioning. Not sure how many others have used this one, but it is a very unassuming and incredibly useful knife that I wouldn't be worried about using while knife-sheeple are around. At least one non-knife lady has asked to have a closer look and exclaimed that her son might like something like that... Ahhh, public relations exercises. Jason.

Great little knife. It would be nice if it had some form of key ring attachment.
Cool little belt pouch you got there.

Cool little knife, how does the blade stay in the closed position, back spring? Ball detent?

It's a fine little knife, I have the same, but I don't use it much though, nice work on that little pouch too, Jason, without it, I figure you could spend hours looking for it in the bottom of a pocket :D

It stays closed with a classical back spring if memory serves...

Xavier.

Yup, those things are great. I lost mine at the airport last month :( , but up until then it was always in my wallet. I'll be buying a new one shortly.

It's a standard slip joint, with a back spring.

Thank you very much Jason.

I've been looking at this little wonder for awhile, however, I didn't purchase one due to it's small size and the likelihood losing it (or digging around in every pocket trying to find it).

Your solution is a great idea and simple to do. Big Thanx.

Best Regards

That is the very reason I haven't gotten one even though I'm very interested in it. I had a knife very much like that when I was a kid (obviously a different blade material) and lost it somewhere along the way. Even with a pouch (which, I agree, is pretty cool :) ) I could see myself losing it if I dropped it in the wrong place. I've had one of the dinky little SAKs for many years and managed to not lose it because I've always had it attached to something, usually a cord worn around my neck.

That knife would probably make a nice, inexpensive alternative to the Spyderco Police necklace if there was a way to attach it to something.

Slip joint = traditional pocket knife.

I understand that, but in terms of the actual mechanism for retaining the blade, does anyone have a description?

Does it put pressure on the blade to stay extended and closed?

The backspring of a slip joint presses towards the axis of the blade. The base of the blade around the axis is sort of square on three sides. The blade is stable when the back spring is flat against one of the three flats. The blade is stable all the way open, all the way closed, and half way open. The top end of the backspring prevents the blade from rotating beyond the full open position when the blade is in use. The best thing to do is look at one.

I have one of the little Ti folders, and have enjoyed it for almost a year now. It actually comes in handy when swimming, as I can slip it into my swim-shorts pocket, and not worry about it. It does tend to disappear in a pocket, but I just keep it by it's lonesome self in my left front. It's perfect for removing a stray thread, or cleaning your fingernails. I usually pair it with the Cuda Maxx 5.5 bowie blade for EDC. I love putting them both on the table side by side, and seeing people's reactions.:D I do wish I could put a lanyard of some sort on it, but I'll just wait to see if they release one with a hole in the handle someday.

I wonder if the folks who make this knife get the message - GREAT KNIFE, BUT WHERE'S THE LANYARD HOLE ? Yes, thats probably my only beef with this terrific little user.

In terms of having knives go through the washing machine - heres some trivia.

A slipjoint or lockback with a closed-blade bias, will not open with the spin cycle of the wash. A liner-locked or one-handed folder WILL OPEN some time during the wash. I have had this happen twice and needless to say, I have had to shell out $$ for a new set of clothes afterwards. My wife was NOT happy... :D  Jason.

Jeff, thanks for the explanation. I handled a Lone Wolf Loveless slipjoint and that brought it to light.

The A.G. Russell weekly email special for July 7 includes the new version of the Ultimate Pen Knife, which has a bale. List price remains a ridiculously low $19.95.

Yeah, I jumped for joy this morning when I checked my email and saw the new version of the Ultimate Pen Knife. They also have a gold anodized 40th anniversary edition with the bail as well. That will be right at $30,though.

That's too weird that the day after we start a thread asking for an improvement, it happens! (Okay, I know that this has been in the works for some time, but the coincidence is pretty neat.)

Actually, I've been asking for this improvement for a while now. I'm glad they finally did it. :)

Man, I can't stop smilin'. I make miniature knives, and a few of my *larger* mini folders have been about this same size. But I had no idea there was a market for these things with people who actually want to carry something like this.

The pouch idea is about the best I've come up with as well. (I don't put bails or lanyard holes on my minis because I want them to look just like a full sized knife; not jewelry) I once sewed a thin leather flap to the strap of my wrist watch to hold a mini. Also thought about making a pouch for my keychain. Also carried them in a little box from wooden matches, and various other little containers and tins. I don't do wallet carry, because I sit on them, and I have a fat a$$.
