Got a s30v leek about a week ago and figured id at least give it a chance before making a decision on keeping, carrying, or getting rid of it. and boy am i surprised. It came butter knife dull, but i touched it up to a razors edge and after a week of consistent edc, it still popping hairs. And i even lent it out to others! (something i never do but thus far it was exceeding expectations so what a better way to dull a knife then to give it to someone who doesnt know how to use one?) I now see what the fuss is all about.

Btw what other steels is the leek offered in and how are their edge retention? Ive seen some crazy colors and designs, especially on the bay, but worry about steels that have 19 digit numerical/alphabetical names (i.e. 89z13vocm2r which of course is completely made up).

I think the S30V, the D2 Composite, Ti Zdp-189 and Damascus blades are the only ones I can think of ..

chester22 and OvalmanPA got most of them. Before the 14C28N there was 13C26. I believe some were 440A before that but I honestly don't remember anymore. So far as an EDC I've used the 14C28N DLC coated, the S30V, and now am using the ZDP189. I have never had an issue with any of them and they are all well worth the money.

Glad you got one and glad you enjoy it! Kind of weird it came to you dull though...every single one of mine is super sharp but at least that's an easy thing to fix.

Guess I should have mentioned I got it second hand. Are the zdp189 models still in production or are they hard to find? What's the model number?
