I had gotten some fluorinated grease with my first Seb last year and since I had it I always used it on my CRKs earlier today my LG Micarta had gotten a bit of grit in it and I figured I'd give it a quick squirt with WD40 and regrease it later when I got a chance. GEESH it makes it a TOTALLY different knife. I wonder if the use of the grease by CRK helps to deter flicking cause it flies open with the WD40 with just a touch from the thumb.

The WD-40 won't last very long. The CRK grease last a long time. (depends on how much you wash your knife)

I don't like the grease...it slows the action IMO.....i use what ever gun lube i got around...I think the grease may work well for holding stuff together if you were assembling knives all day.

I have never used their grease, other than when new and instead, use Miltec or Tuf Glide and they are as smooth or smoother than they were with the original grease.

WD-40 is not really designed as a lubricant--it is a water displacement product.

I can't stand tuf glide because it smells so bad. I made the mistake of putting a small drop in the pivot and it stank so bad for the next 3 days and it just wouldn't go away. Took it apart and cleaned everything with soapy water and used the CRK grease this time. *sniff sniff* Ahh, much better.

I tried tuf-glide and didn't like it. The best for me so far is the same White Lightning that I use on my bike.

I think miltec and other quality lubes are great but WD 40 gets a bad wrap. Yes it is a water displacer and has some solvent qualities but I also do a lot of saltwater fishing and have used WD 40 for years and have saved more equipment using it than I have lost for sure. Just cause it doesn't cost 10 to 20 bucks for an ounce doesn't mean its worthless. In fact my most used EDC a leatherman wave has never gotten anything but water rinses and WD 40 sprays and it goes through hell daily at work and after the water rinse and WD 40 spritz its good to go.

more the opposite in my experience. all too often, WD40 seems to be the "cure all" for problems that it shouldn't be.

WD40 has its place, but it's not as long-lived a lubricant as a good grease.

WD40 is probably fine for most folders.

I use Tuf-Glide.It works good, but does stink pretty bad.

I used to use just plain old Hoppes#9.It's not as good as some of the newer lubes out there.I just got a bottle of White Lightning for free in my last knife purchase.I'll try that out next.

I use white lithium grease. I've had the same tub for about 6 years now and haven't even gotten halfway through it. At $3 a tub, you can't go wrong.

You are right about that I have seen old timers topically apply it to the skin for everything from skitter repellant to arthiritis relief
